Secretariat won in the '70s. The '90s weren't that long ago to people who aren't in school (a vast majority of people).

only a few of us, evidently, know what you are doing... the rest are trying to prove you wrong....

Agreed. That American Pharoah cat trained with Dortmund. Real GOATs do it by themselves.

This isnt a thread about horses??

Not really. I guess some think it is. Oh wait, it is just about horses since they said we are clueless.

All the horses today are friends too. Back in the day they hated each other

Secretariat's autopsy showed a freakishly large heart that accounted for his amazing ability. Unless another horse is born with such a rare abnormality, he'll never be surpassed. He's in his own category-no comparison

Couldn't agree more. frick, Sham would wipe the floor with the horses today, and he couldn't hold Secretariat's jock.
AP couldn't compete with the physicality of the horses in the 70s. They would abuse him. Horse racing was so much better then. None of the scratches and whining that you have today.
It is embarrassing that these young'ns think any different.

There are huge lines of Friesian horses when a new pair of Secretariats come out. American Pharoah shoes are meh...

I noticed American Pharoah had a receding mane.

I stand corrected. I guess it could happen again, but....

A necropsy revealed his heart was significantly larger than that of an ordinary horse.[37] An extremely large heart is a trait that occasionally occurs in Thoroughbreds, linked to a genetic condition passed down via the dam line, known as the "x-factor".[37][39][40][41] The x-factor can be traced to the historic racehorse Eclipse, which was necropsied after his death in 1789. Because Eclipse's heart appeared to be much larger than other horses, it was weighed, and found to be 14 pounds (6.4 kg), almost twice the normal weight. Eclipse is believed to have passed the trait on via his daughters, and pedigree research verified that Secretariat traces in his dam line to a daughter of Eclipse.[37] In the 20th century, the heart of Phar Lap was weighed and also documented to be 6.35 kilograms (14.0 lb),[42] or essentially the same size as that of Eclipse.
At the time of Secretariat's death, the veterinarian who performed the necropsy, Dr. Thomas Swerczek, head pathologist at the University of Kentucky, did not weigh Secretariat's heart, but stated, "We just stood there in stunned silence. We couldn't believe it. The heart was perfect. There were no problems with it. It was just this huge engine."[38] Later, Swerczek also performed a necropsy on Sham, who died in 1993. Swerczek did weigh Sham's heart, and it was 18 pounds (8.2 kg). Based on Sham's measurement, and having necropsied both horses, he estimated Secretariat's heart probably weighed 22 pounds (10.0 kg),[37] or about two-and-three-quarters times as large as that of the average horse.

And Secretariat was dominant. Did you even see the 73 Belmont footage?
Posted on 6/6/15 at 7:42 pm to ehidal1
I have seen the footage. That's why the necropsy is so relevant. Not taking away from secretariat. Just doesn't seem fair to hold all other horses to that standard. Deserves his own catagory

Secretariat was just born with a better frame/genetics, like Shaq and Serena Williams. He didn't really win with more skill, hard work, or guile.
