In her defense, Serena says she didn't say that. Her integrity has never been in question so I believe her. But I guess if you don't like her in the first place you're gonna take some loser line judge's word for it.

If your fever is high enough then that is exactly what you would look like, especially the bad coordination and weakness, even after the fever has broken. And it is usually viruses that cause a high fever. An illness might also explain her poor play in her singles match.

I once had a bad viral infection, and I had to sit down halfway through a shower because I was so weak, even after the fever. I would literally hit a wall and just shut off every day at about 3-4 PM for 3 weeks afterward.

SHe certainly could be high, but I would absolutely buy a virus making her look/play like that.

Is there anything better than some putz on the internet questioning the drive/dedication of a world class athlete? Because of course all those hours on the court as a child had nothing to do with her being one of the best tennis players ever. Now, I can certainly buy that she isn't all about tennis anymore, but no one reaches her level without dedication.

I also love it when people throw out the respect the tournament argument. Why? The AEC is all about the money. They would sell their grandmother if they thought it would bring more profit.

My bias is people who like Mcenroe but dislike Serena don't understand he is the person who inspired her behavior. That's what she's said when asked.

McEnroe, Connors, and Roddick were being petulant and embarrassing douchebags for years and didn't seem to attract the dislike Serena did (even before her incident when she threatened to stuff a tennis ball down someone's throat - not kill them). FWIW I have no problem with anyone expressing dislike of any of those four tennis players but I don't see a good distinction between them - especially when none of them had the self awareness or class to express remorse for their temper tantrums after the fact.

I don't know what the hell was wrong with her, but watching her react to balls thrown in her direction reminded me of this:

With the smile/smirk on Venus' face during their meetings on court you could tell its probably nothing serious. More like a "TOLD YOU NOT TO GO DRINKING" thing. I think Serena's going to be fine.
To me it looked fake and Venus (and Serena) broke composure for a second. 1:27 of the video: LINK

Venus definitely grinned/smirked right there. Ask yourself, honestly, would you do that if your sibling was suffering from a "viral illness" that had her behaving that way?

No. And forget a sibling... if I was playing with a random tennis partner who served into the net 6 straight times I think I would peak back to see what was up. I might even have a slightly concerned look. If I was a callous enough to not care about the person, I would start getting agitated that my partner sucks.

Also, I have never seen someone loose the coordination to bounce the ball yet throw a good toss and have great foot and body coordination on the serve. I would expect her to have to redo the toss multiple times and then look completely out of whack on the actual serve, not just hit it into the net or long.

unless she's never been high on pot before, there's no way she would be THAT awful. pills? maybe so. those make you a bit more loopy.

Tennis matches are extremely easy to pull out of and no one would blink about it since this is an early round doubles match. Anyone who thinks she faked her way out of the match is a moron.

I don't necessarily think that Serena was faking. I've said several times here that she seemed to be high. What I'm saying is that her condition surely seemed alarming to just about every observer except Venus. She actually seemed amused by the whole thing, and, at the least, took it in stride.

I think she has a bit of a weird personality and acts childish sometimes when she loses, but people go overboard. I hate to say it, but I think there is a touch of racism in it.

Uh, you don't say?

I've played competitive tennis matches high. That had nothing to do with weed.

I'm starting to lean that this was staged.

Again why stage this when she could've retired before the match with no questions asked?

Yeah, you're right. I have no idea what happened. It's just fricked up with all the layers of protection Serena had, all of them failed her and let her go out there.

I would honestly be shocked to find out that McEnroe never threatened the life of a line judge.

She basically carrying USA tennis on her back but she get so much venom spewed her way by her fellow Americans.

It is what Williams deserves. I'd prefer to not have any USA tennis than be represented by that classless, disrespectful piece of shite. SW is a fricking worthless human being, I don't give a shite what country they're from. Personally, I'd rather the Williams moved somewhere else and repped that country instead of the US.

quote:

Her outburst a few years back at the U.S. open when she confronted that line judge was disturbing. And the next day she said she did nothing wrong. Lost a lot of respect for when that happened.

I wouldn't call that basically nothing.

Exactly. My opinion of her started pretty low because I didn't like Venus at all. However Serena initially wasn't like she is now, she was respectful and came across nice. I liked that Serena, a lot. Somewhere along her climb up the ladder though, she changed.

Now she is more like "what if Naomi Campbell or Tyra Banks played tennis" (but looked more Secretariat than supermodel) and because I used to like that kinder Serena, it gives me much greater distaste for this version. Honestly, if this is partying or drug related (and that is what the smart money is betting on) I'd say she is more like the Tennis world's Lindsay Lohan.

quote:

come on

McEnroe is semi celebrated for being a childish prat on the court. They even made commercials poking fun about it.

Everyone laughed at McEnroe. People are disappointed in Serena. There is a huge difference.

quote:

I'm no doctor but I have a family member who has had vertigo due to an ear infection. With true vertigo, you can't walk a straight line without help. There were several times in the video where Serena walked several steps without help.

Yeah, this is definitely not vertigo. It does not cause muscle weakness like that and she wasn't nearly dizzy enough. Plus if she did have vertigo badly enough to cause her to show any symptoms like those, they would have been more consistent and she never would have been able to get on the court in the first place. She would also have been puking. My father has had vertigo my whole life, I know exactly what it looks like and that was not vertigo.

What she did was either threw a tantrum and was doing that shite on purpose, or got too fricked up because she lost singles, didn't really give a shite about doubles and was too dehydrated and/or exhausted to play as a result.

quote:

And before I get called a racist(I can't believe I need to add this),

Some grandstanding asshat already handled that a few posts back, pretty much calling anyone that thought anything negative about Serena a racist. Par for the course for that type.

quote:

My dislike for her has zero to do with her doing drugs. She has no respect for herself or her trade. She has zero respect for her opponents or the people who run the events.

I personally don't know what was wrong with her yesterday and to be perfectly honest, I really don't care. She could have been high or drunk or basically just didn't want to be there. Doesn't matter. I will never have respect to he based on how she has handled herself in her career

We are same.
