Nevermind, Jordan has changed his mind.

I'm starting to feel like the only position player I'd be happy with in exchange for one of the big 4 is Adam Jones or someone of comparable stats/contractual status.
I'd prefer a Reed Johnson or Marlon Byrd for a mid-level prospect over Beltran for Minor. Two months of Beltran is simply not worth an elite prospect.
Our biggest need is relief help though. Proctor, Linebrink, Sherrill and Martinez are all worthless. You need to replace them with someone reliable so you can save some wear and tear on the big 3 pen mates. Cannot wait for Moylan and there is no guarantee how much he can help and how quickly. It is time to start thinking about starting the clock on one of these AAA relievers or making a trade.

Every single organization in the sweepstakes agrees with you. All of them have said they aren't giving up a big gun, and Crasnick said today they are probably more likely to get 2 mid-level guys instead.
I realize Beltran has injury issues, but he's healthy right now and I think most people wary of dealing prospects for him underestimate how much of a difference maker he is. This is an elite, top-20 hitter. People keep saying they want Bourn, and I understand the logic (he plays CF, our weakest position that we are open to upgrading) and he's a "table setter." But Beltran is a superior offensive player in every way but steals, and even there, he's not far behind. He gets on base more, and even if he's not a leadoff hitter, having that type of OBP in the lineup could drastically improve the offense, especially with his ability to drive the ball and do damage in the middle of the order.
Personally, I think Beltran would make this team better than Bourn would, and will probably cost less at this point, because younger guys with team control command a lot in return due to their relatively cheap cost.
I think we all agree this team has championship caliber pitching (recent struggles aside) and an average offense. Adding Beltran would propel our offense past Philly's (regardless if we catch them in the standings), and probably up near the better offenses in the N.L. IMO, he's the type of player that could take us from a playoff contender/W.S. semi-longshot to a serious W.S. contender.

I think we should be in on Rasmus over Beltran.

He'd cost a lot too. He's got a ton of potential, but he's more of a power hitter type, low obp and bad defense.
