Sometimes you can’t win as a player. He had knee issues in the 3rd round, but when you win everyone says you are faking, or my favorite... “he was getting the excuse ready in case he lost.” This is with everyone, not just Rafa.

Also, what % of retirements happen when a player is ahead in a match? It wouldn’t make any sense unless you had absolutely no choice.

I mean hypothetically, if Rafa was up 2 sets to 0 when the injury happened today, he would have retired before he lost right? If you are having serious injury problems then you retire whether you are up 2 sets or down 2 sets. To my knowledge, he has not been injured up 2 sets

I never want to hear another word about how Fed is a pussy and Rafa is the GOAT warrior. He quit against Cilic at the Australian Open this year and basically tapped out against Stan in the 2014 Australian Open final.

If not for my “ medical event” I would probably have gone.

This probably wouldn’t happen as you could hobble around and hope your opponent starts missing everything or picks up an injury himself. I think I see what you are getting at, though. Why couldn’t Rafa just finish out the match today? Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe the prospect of playing 3 more sets in pain to pull out the win was too daunting, or maybe he didn’t want to prolong the recovery process by putting additional stress on it.

How old is Chevy Chase? He looks (and sounds) 100.

I gotta’ stop pulling for these underdogs.

It’s depressing.

I did this my whole life. Now I join the Rafa fan club and he immediately gets hurt.

It’s like sports karma for being a Bama fan.

Incredible gumby shot to win it. Well, those matches blew. Hopefully, we get a good final.

After Nadal/Thiem...all other matches have fallen short.

Although, I do think DP will give ND trouble.

My two most disliked tennis players are most likely going to walk to another championship. Sad
