I agree with all that.

You really can't lose the biggest game in football by 5 touchdowns and have it have no effect on your legacy.

If that's the case, there are 30 quarterbacks whose legacies were more negatively affected today.

But, those 30 legacies stayed put today. By playing in a third Super Bowl, Manning enhanced his. A win would have been astronomically better, of course, but the idea that losing in a Super Bowl damages one's career achievements is absurd.

guy like Tom Brady came into the league and won right away. So right away, nothing less than winning was acceptable. He is one of the most fiery and competitive guys in the league, simply because that's all he has known from a young age. When he loses, it's not the norm for him.
Pats haven't won a SB since 2004.

His losses in the big games have as much to do with his teammates not showing up as much it is on him erring when trying to carry the team by himself.

His TD INT ratio in the playoffs is NOT very compelling and, he stunk tonight. Yeah. His team imploded also.

But, let's face it, the defense had them only down 8-0 when it damned well coulda been 21-0.

The dude stunk tonight until it was too late. And, I freaking LIKE Manning.

Alas. You're right. It has no effect upon his legacy because his legacy dating all the way back to playing UF in college is, "damned good almost all the time but folds on the biggest stages".

Seattle dominated the 1st quarter b/c the Broncos couldn't do anything.

And they only led 8-0.

Broncos D has nothing to be ashamed of...until they realized the O wasn't going to mount anything.

I think the Broncos defense gave up only 13 points in the first half, which, when you have an offense as prolific as Denver's, looks quite serviceable. You're right.

Correct. And he takes losing harder than anyone in the league. He doesn't even watch games after his team is out.

Well yeah, not anymore since their special way of watching other teams was taken away from them.

I guess it depends on what you regard as his "legacy".

If you feel that it's a legacy of a Hall of Fame QB and one of the best to ever play, you're right that this game didn't affect that one bit. His first year of eligibility he will be inducted with 100 percent of the vote.

However, if you believe his legacy is that of being the straight up GOAT as your OP states then this game affected that in a major way. Sure, his teammates let him down but he made a few dumb decisions of his own.

I'd like to see a comparison of Peyton's numbers against top 5 defenses and non top 5 defenses throughout his career. His numbers plummet when he plays a really good, fast, and physical defense. And plummet much harder than a lot of other all-time greats, like I said.

Denver relied on YAC and missed tackles a lot this year. That's the nature of any team that throws a lot of short crossing routes. Seattle doesn't miss tackles and is one of the most physical defenses in the league. They really played right into Seattle's hands.

There's a lot of Peyton Manning fans. I get it.

Let me ask this.. If the Broncos had won by 35 points, and Peyton threw for 400 yards and 4 TDs, would you guys be holding firm with all this "it doesn't affect his legacy" bullcrap?

Yeah, right. There would be as many "Manning is the GOAT" threads as there are threads about why this game didn't affect his legacy.

Get real, people.

LINK

The link above sums up everything I am thinking right now. It's 12 1/2 minutes long but the guy makes some great points.

Exactly. For Peyton fans it would only affect his legacy if he had won.

Mirror that.

My point to you was the Brady shite you said. Brady is 0-2 in Superbowls the last 10 years.

I don't have a dog in this fight. Brady is HOF, Manning is HOF.

Didn't affect his legacy but it proved he's an average QB in the Super Bowl.

1) Was just responding to the last post in the thread. Sorry.
2) Brady played pretty well in his Super Bowl losses.

That's a stupid question. A really stupid question. I can't tell you how stupid that question is.

Getting to a Super Bowl positively affects one's legacy.
Winning a Super Bowl does wonders for one's legacy.

By getting to the Super Bowl, Manning's legacy is more decorated than it was before. Had he won, it would be even more decorated.

Goddammit, that was such a stupid question.
