People are way too critical of TV announcers.

I agree. These guys aren’t trained to do the job. They bring expert knowledge, some present it better than others. I think of those mentioned they’re all pretty good at educating the average fan.

Brady just talks too much between plays. Romo has a grating voice that’ll drive you insane. Terrible for TV. Not as bad as Mike hoss whose voice I can’t stand at all. He should not be in radio.

I keep hearing this from many - I mean - he's good but I'm just not as blown away as others.

Brady’s main problem is his voice isn’t low

This is the thing. I've always thought that for all his looks and greatness every time he opened his mouth it just sounded cringe, and I can't stand hearing it for a 4 hour football game

Brady’s issue is he had a high pitched voice and his tempo just isn’t great. Nothing he can do about that.

Collinsworth says some insane shite but he ear fricks you with how smooth his voice is

Aikman has that tempo and low baritone

Olson is honestly the best

agree with all of this. And I think Cousins will be the next good one.

It’s the pitch. If Tom Brady was just an accountant, and was going on a blind date…guarantee the woman would light up first seeing him, and dry up when he speaks.

The high pitch of his voice is as aggravating as listening to a woman with a low pitch. These people don’t belong in broadcasting

He's also better than Greg Olson by quite a bit

Olson is the best color commentator out there. Brady is nowhere near his level.

Romo doesnt even try to improve. He just mails it in

Meanwhile Brady is banging 27 year olds, runs the Raiders, soared past Romo in skill and will even better next season

His voice will improve every year. Its noticeably lower than last season

quote:

You’re not crazy—Brady’s voice has definitely sounded deeper and more "on-brand" for a broadcaster this year.

Fans and critics were pretty vocal about his higher-pitched, "nails-on-a-chalkboard" tone during his rookie season in 2024.

To fix this, he’s been working with vocal coaches to master diaphragmatic breathing and chest resonance, which naturally lowers the pitch and adds that "magisterial" authority you're hearing.

How he’s improving his "broadcasting flavour":

Technical Tweaks: FOX audio engineers likely boosted his lower-end frequencies on the mic levels.

Vocal Placement: He’s training to speak from his chest rather than his throat to avoid vocal fatigue.

Pacing: By slowing down his delivery, he avoids the breathless, high-pitched "rookie" sound.

He can absolutely keep refining this; vocal cords are muscles, and with enough training, he’ll likely sound even more like a seasoned pro every year.

I never really understood why predicting plays became such a magical thing

It's like the poker tards, who call out hands, the tv only shows the few he gets right, not the 1000,'s of hands he gets wrong, thus claiming a guy is so good.

Brady has gotten better.

Romo is dog shite. He’s flat out horrible and it’s torture listening to him.
