Not to mention they've mad the playoffs every year but one since their last SB win, with two SB appearances.

Walsh innovated the west coast, true
False. Paul Brown 'innovated' the offense Walsh ran decades earlier.
Rule changes beginning in the late 70's with the Mel Blount rule (not allowing receivers being touched beyond 5 yards) . & offensive linemen being able to extend arms & literally 'hold' defensive lineman made it even more potent for Walsh beginning in 1980.
NFL rule changes are far more responsible for the potency of this 'new' West Coast offense (old Paul Brown short passing game) than innovative or coaching offensive brilliance ..

even better...
I think Bill created a new model, and not one easy to replicate because you have to have the right person, for how to run an NFL team.
I don't think a single detail goes unnoticed. He is incredible.

False. I don't think he could been successful in the old NFL, while I think guys like Lombardi, Walsh, Jimmy Johnson, Parcells could be successful in any era.

That doesn't make any sense because it's a lot harder being successful now in this age of parity than it ever was before.

I say Walsh but there is something about this thread I'm wondering. I see people saying Vince Lombardi. I'm not even disagreeing because the only thing I know about him is that he won the first 2 SB's, but I bet most of the people saying Lombardi are in the same boat I am. They don't know that much about him are just saying it because he's a legend.

I just don't think it is possible to meaningfully compare coaches across vastly different eras.
How do compare BB to someone like George Halas who was a co-founder of the NFL and coached teams that won 7 championships and won over 300 games? Supposedly the first coach to hold daily practice and study film.
It is just apples and oranges, but personally I would say someone like Halas had far more impact.

Best coach of my era no doubt. the best coach of all time is debatable. But regardless belicheck is in that argument, he is top 5 I think everyone can agree on that

lombardi won a shitload of championships in addition to his two super bowls and easily had the most dominant team in that era...
When it comes down to the two, I think BB's style and organizational skills translate to any era...I think Lombardi would have a hard time getting players of this era to follow him.
I encourage anyone to watch the documentary from a couple of years ago where they followed BB around for the season...it's hard not to come away admiring him. Sean Payton has been pretty open over the years about emulating what BB has done in NE.

I'm not saying he didn't. Like I said, I really only know a few things about him. I would be willing to bet most, not all, people in this thread saying Lombardi are saying it just because they heard it on tv or something. That's all I was trying to say.

Just going to point out that the Patriots' last Super Bowl win was a whole decade ago.
