That's debatable. If you're supposed to be covering an offensive player but you blow your coverage, have a brain fart, etc., then you can make up for it. Now, that would be a smart play to make up for a mistake, but it contributes to the low scoring in soccer that keeps the average American fan disinterested.

Why would you change the most popular sport in the world. Oh and I doubt that Soccer gives a frick about the intrest of the average american fan.

By no means am I against offsides in soccer, but basketball doesn't have offsides and you don't really see cherrypicking, definitely not to the extend as it's being stated in this thread.

No way that would work.

If I had to change something, I would increase the number of substitutions you make per game.

I can't find the rule, but it's called snowbirding and it's illegal in basketball.

I also think a penalty box could be instituted like hockey. Soccer power plays could be interesting and would increase scoring.

hell of an idea. would increase flopping tho

I also don't want a substituted keeper to count against your limit, seeing as it's always a like for like replacement, and is usually forced.

Adding more substitutions eliminates strategy from the game. The 3 sub limit makes the coach use his subs wisely. I woudn't be opposed to 4, but if you get up to 6 it's just watered down.

i think the opposite is true.

Anytime you bring on a player from the bench, the strategy in the game changes a bit. So if a manager can use another sub to change the game, then I think that's for the better.

The three subs in any given game are pretty standard and you usually know who they'll be. So does the manager. Where's his work?

The only definitions I can find are from urbandictionary.

I'll be shocked if you're correct, but I guess I've been wrong before, lol.

Doesn't the Over and Back rule do the same thing as offsides? In essence keeping players lounging by the goal?

I don't see the correlation, to be honest.

Hell I don't know a thing about basketball, but over and back was what came up when I googled offsides in basketball.

Ever notice that: In Soccer "cheering" has NO point.

...horns and ghey songs which all sound the same - regardless of what is happening on the field. It doesn't celebrate performance or intimidate other team....

Eliminate offsides. Would get rid of these 0-0 yawnfests.

Watch "highlights" of Scott McDonald. This is what you'd get if you eliminated offside. 4 or 5 McDonalds standing in the box with the rest of the people punting it into the box.
