Don't think any teams in 2026 College Football should be considered better than teams before the transfer portal. This Indiana team, and the other good teams in 2026 have little, if any depth. If one of their best players had gotten injured they wouldn't be in the playoff.

Indiana’s top 3 RBs:
Hemby - 1,060 yards, 5.0ypc - 7TD
Black - 961 yards, 5.6ypc - 10TD
Martin - 505 yards, 6.5ypc - 6TD

WR:
Cooper - 866, 13.5ypc - 13TD
Sarrat - 802, 12.9ypc - 15TD
Becker - 614, 20.5ypc - 4TD
EJ Williams, 438, 12.2ypc - 6TD

I’d say they’ve shown they have quite a bit of depth.

Their best DL got injured after the B1G title game and has been out for the entire playoffs.

If they beat Miami, they will go down as the greatest college football team in College Football history. NO OTHER team in history has won 16 games in a single season.

They literally would finish the season by beating Ohio State and slaughtering Alabama and Oregon and whatever happens against Miami. All back to back.

Thats not true, Yale did in the 1894 and being 16-0 doesnt make you the greatest in history the same way it didnt make 2018 Clemson the greatest when they went 15-0 nor 16-0 Yale. You have to look at who they played, SOS, players on the team, overall level of competition as it changes from year to year and era to era. They dont match up in some of those areas with 1995 Nebraska, 2019 LSU or 2001 Miami.

Bama at the end of the year mightve quite literally been one of the worst/least deserving CFP teams of all time not to mention Oregon being the five seed baded on what? Beating a 6-6 Penn State team that was ranked highly at the time and a USC team who couldn't beat anybody with a pulse?

Let me rephrase this

quote:

If they beat Miami, they will go down as the greatest college football team in MODERN College Football history. NO OTHER team in MODERN history has won 16 games in a single season.

That would be correct but it still doesnt change the fact that winning more games doesnt make you the greatest, youd see 2005 Texas at 13-0, 2010 Auburn 14-0 or even 2022 UGA at 15-0 be considered the best but they aren't. Theyre considered great teams but not any better than 1995 Nebraska 12-0 or 2001 Miami 12-0 which along with 15-0 LSU are considered the best three of all time in some order or another. Indiana, if they win, will be a great time even an all time great team but due to not having played the same level of competition, statistical comparison versus comparable opponents/situations, players not being as dominant, weak regular season SOS, and the fact that theyre playing a 2(3 if they win) loss team who didnt even play in their own conference championship for the natty just doesn't let me put them in that select group. Although they definetly have the best underdog story of all time if they complete it.

If you're looking just at conference results then '13 Sparty's way up there. First team to win all of their conference games by 10+ points including a win over an undefeated Meyer-coached OSU team in the B1GCG. Won the Rose Bowl over a tough-as-nails Stanford team.

I don't think Sparty beats FSU that year but they were better than everyone else.
