Even if there is a lockout, the overtake is inevitable

Basketball is more accessible, easier to play
Cheaper
More popular with kids
High school/college bball > high school/college baseball
Basketball is more popular globally
Basketball is more entertaining

While this is mostly my opinion, it'd still be hard to dispute any of this.

No, but I do recall seeing some quotes. He may be an exception to the rule! But he does make it more interesting.

I'd like to dispute this. Dude, Japan is literally baseball insane.

I gotta think youth baseball is played by more kids than youth basketball. Yes basketball is easier to play when you do "pick up", but as far as leagues, Little League dominates.

Basketball being more entertaining is your opinion. Personally, I think the fact star players get to bend the rules is asinine and will hurt the sport.

I disagree on the time frame. It really was never billed as Jordan vs anyone. It might have been Jordans Bulls vs the Jazz or something like that. I consider the end of the Spurs little run the end of team basketball hype. Ive been a NBA lover for a long time but the game almost sickens me at times now.

Alot of professional and college sports are dying, especially with low tv ratings. There are too many other forms of entertainment that are in competition with sports today that were not present 20 years ago.

Also, you can get the condensed version of almost all games on Sportscenter or the internet.

Growing up, I followed college and pro football, baseball, and basketball religiously. Now, I only care about college and pro football. The reason is that I only want to spend 3 or more hours watching a sporting event on television if the game actually means something.

In football, because of the low number of games in a season, each game has significance. In contrast, basketball and baseball have so many games in a season that one game does not have much significance. Therefore, I probably won't watch it.

Free agency also has contributed with the constant shifting of players from one team to another.

Expensive ticket prices and enormous player salaries also make it difficult for the average fan to attend games and identify with players, especially in today's economic times.

I like baseball but never ever watch the NBA. It's not the basketball i gre up with.

Never call traveling or 3 seconds. Too many dunks and alley oops. Too much 1 on 1.

But baseball is more cerebral and yes slower,

Baseball is a different beast, that basketball will never catch.

Professional baseball had over 120,000,000 fans attend a game last year. On a per game mlb basis drew over 30K, the nba is below 18K.

MLB Gross revenue is increased from 6.6 billion to 7 billion by comparison the NFL was at 7.8 and the NBA was just under 4.

The most valuable NBA franchise wouldn't rank among the top 5 in MLB.

basketball takes like 5 minutes to explain most of the rules whereas people can watch baseball for years and still see some rarely enforced rule come into play and be like WTF

yea im a baseball snob. i said it.

Hell you can say that about the NFL. shite all the holding, can't play defense like the old days. Offensive records are being set left and right because the rule changes help the offense now days. Hell they can't even hit like the old days. Some of the penalties this year was a joke.

When the average NBA player is 6'7 dunks and alley oops just aren't as impressive.

That's because basketball arenas are much smaller than baseball stadiums. How many times do these stadiums actually fill to capacity? The Rangers were the AL champs last year but I watched a couple of games where it had to be under 55% capacity. If the Lakers could physically build a 30k stadium knowing that it would sell out, they would.

As aforementioned, youth baseball is ridiculously expensive these days. Most high school teams want their players in these several thousand dollar a summer club travel teams. It's not a sport for the working class or often for minorities.

Basketball is far more popular than baseball worldwide. While baseball has support in parts of Latin America (mind you the Caribbean and Venezuela), basketball is far more popular in the largest countries (i.e. Argentina, Brazil). Japan may have a baseball fascination (given to them during our occupation), China's support of basketball dwarfs Japan's interest in baseball. Europe also has a large contingent of basketball fans, particularly in Eastern and Southern Europe (Spain, Italy, Greece, the Balkans). Not to mention it's expanding in larger markets like the UK (more interest over here in the NBA exhibitions than the NFL regular season game played at Wembley), Germany and France.

Like the NBA, they need to cut down on the length of the season/playoffs, starting in what, March? and ending in fricking November is way to long. I've never been a baseball person anyway.
