re: Why Notre Dame has it so easy

I love how some of the Notre Dame haters chose WW2 as a reason to bash ND. If anything, they should celebrate the large contribution that ND made in the war effort.
This is why Notre Dame and Navy play every year and why both teams gather in front of the students of each school to sing each school’s Alma Mater after the game. It’s called respect.
I would like to thank the ND bashers for bringing this up and allowing this part of Notre Dame history and tradition to be discussed.

Notre Dame had a loss, they'd be watching everyone else play their way in ahead of them. They have to be perfect damn near every year to get in.
usually, a schedule with
Mich
Mich state
Southern California
Stanford
Va tech
Florida state
Is perceived as between pretty darn good test and ferocious.
They've all been top 25 often and most were top 15 often.

I'm no ND fan but they are undefeated with no wins over FCS or G5 schools as the others have. They have earned their way in.

Fivethirtyeight has ND, OSU and OU in a dog fight for the 3rd and 4th spots if it’s chalk this weekend, and actually has ND as the odd man out. This makes no sense to me.

ND doesn't go around playing Arkansas State and the Citadel.
Those are bye weeks for Alabama while ND has to go out and perform.
Who cares if ND gets to sit and watch this week?

When some of your clown teams stop playing Murray State and Furman, then we'll have this discussion like an adult.

Except they beat Ball State this year which is a G5 school
I love the misinformation of the daily “I’m jealous of Notre Dame” thread

People can say what they want about their schedule, but they went undefeated. They have every damn right to be in the playoff. Can't ask for much more than that.

So the War seemed to give A&M a bit of boost in their overall history. Some sacrifice.
A&M has 7 Medal of Honor winners from WWII and sent 20k men to fight. You gonna shite on the Army and Navy teams from that era too?

It's why they should be required to participate fully in the ACC if they are going to use them as their quasi conference.
Seems like the ACC and Notre Dame reached an agreement that they both found to be mutually beneficial, who gives a shite what you think about it?

ND’s head coach Frank Leahy (the second-highest winning percentage in D-I history, behind only Knute Rockne) literally left the school in the 1944 and 1945 seasons to be a lieutenant in the Navy. But ND didn’t contribute to the war effort....

They played plenty of teams who are usually top25 teams. They beat the ranked teams on their schedule. Not their fault USC, Stanford and Virginia Tech were hot garbage this year. Still beat Michigan, a solid Syracuse team, Northwestern(playing in the big 10 title game)

When did I say Bear didn’t (or say he didn’t serve for longer)? You/others claimed ND didn’t contribute at all to the war effort. That’s false. The head coach literally didn’t coach for two years because he was serving. ND also housed the navy/had the navy use its campus as training grounds. Did the University of Alabama do that? You said ND only won because of the war. ND won four championships in the 40s. One was during the war, but the other three were after it.

There is no way ND is hanging with Alabama or Clemson. I think the Irish would lose to Georgia and Ohio state.

538’s algorithm puts too much weight on conference championships. It’s technically an official factor per the committee, but the committee hasn’t really shown in the past it’s actually used as a differentiator, particularly if the non-conference champ has fewer losses than the conference champ (OSU vs. PSU in 2016, Bama vs. OSU last year). Further, given that ND can’t win a conference championship (which I doubt 538 can or does account for in its algorithm), it skews heavily against ND. But ND is 100% in.

I don't get the ND hate this year. Their win against Michigan is as good or better than anything Bama, Clemson or UGA have on their resume. Syracuse and Stanford were decent wins. Its not ND's fault that Florida State, USC and Va. Tech were all garbage. I think they'd lose to Bama, Clemson, or UGA, but they ran the table, so they're in

Considering Clemson and Bama would still be in if they lost, I'd say it's a wash
Clemson is out if they lose, unless Ohio State and Oklahoma also lose.
