I was just adding another anecdote to your interesting story

Gotcha. I assumed you were just talking trash and/or criticizing ND as many have been doing in this thread. My apologies.
Kinda another interesting factoid (that you may already know) about ND/Bama in the 40s is Frank Thomas played at ND under Rockne. I don’t know if he was Catholic or not, but it’d be interesting if he was and was Bama’s coach back then.

Eh, your overall post is good, but aTm, LSU, army, and navy had the most in the war by far.

I'm an LSU fan. It's ok to admit we wish we could be independent and play a national schedule.
Why are conferences necessary?
Primary beneficiaries are the smaller and weaker programs. Not the best ones. It's a form of socialism.
It's ok to admit that there is some jealousy in their ability to be independent.
Why couldn't LSU do it?

Eh, your overall post is good, but aTm, LSU, army, and navy had the most in the war by far.
Plus random schools like Iowa, UNC, and a few others that had huge flight programs and the schools with the big V-7 programs like Notre Dame, Cornell, Northwestern, and a few others (at least as far as a percentage of the student body).
It's weird to think about now, but some of these schools' student bodies sacrificed enormously during the war.
Actually pretty cool story about an ND alum who survived the Bataan Death March here

Well accepted fact that ND only exists because of Navy.
F ND and F shite Bend...outside the ND fence, the place is a Yankee shithole.
Will LMAO when ND gets crushed in the CFP.

It's certainly not because of the academy.
Enjoy your 3 - 9 season. Hope you enjoy being yet another pissant stomping game yet again for ND as is right and proper.

I've read that story before and actually believe it.
USC had Japanese and Chinese nationals as students far before most schools.
Policies dating back to the 1880s assured that no student would ever be denied admission because of race, color, religion or sex.
It was a promise 80 years ahead of its time.
Students came to study at USC from California, across America and many distant lands – China, India, Japan.
In the early years of the century, the Japanese Student Association published its own yearbook, the Japanese El Rodeo. The 1913 volume, which quotes president George Bovard’s praise of a Japanese student who had graduated cum laude, shows Japanese presences in the law school, the dental school and fine arts.
By 1930, USC ranked third in the nation in international enrollment, with more than 10 percent of the student body.
Today USC has over 11,000 foreign students out of 43,000 students.
Almost 1/4 of the student body comes from a foreign country to study...with the highest #s being China.

Sort of like the Gump last year. Brian Kelly would be smart to do ESPN that Saturday.

No conference title game to play in, I'm not gonna begrudge them for it they've turned back all challengers to reach their current point in the CFP hierarchy and apparently constitute a solid team however the opinion OP expressed is not without merit

Let's pretend there are no conference championship games. This weekend there are the following mythical matchups:
Alabama vs Notre Dame
Clemson vs Notre Dame
Georgia vs Notre Dame
Ohio State vs Notre Dame
Oklahoma vs Notre Dame
I think the line on each of those games would favor ND's opponent and it wouldn't surprise me if all were by at least 7 points.
Was this supposed to be about the four best teams?

Vegas doesn't decide who is the best team, either.
