Reading all this about Jamarcus Russell and I can't help but bring up Jimbo's supposed QB mastery. 4 1st round picks, Russell one of the biggest busts in history, Ponder and EJ were a joke, and even Jameis is treading water. There may have been bigger busts on the field or contractually or whatever but Ryan Leaf was a national story every week it seemed. That dudes entire career was like a WWE storyline.

Latter-Day Al Davis everyone I’m not surprised, crazy thing was I thought he’d actually be a great pro based off how dominant he was his last year at LSU and his performance against Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl our loss but he and his rookie guaranteed contract brought it on himself

Tampa Bay did everything they could to convince him to though with Culverhouse offering him the biggest rookie running back contract of all-time then but Bo knows grudges and all haha

That contract was Williams’ fault though, he admitted his agent negotiated what was the biggest rookie running back contract of all-time and he flat-out rejected it and instructed him to construct an incentive-based one, dude’s an interesting guy

His signing bonus wasn't even that great.

Williams earned $8.8 million his rookie season. Conversely, Edgerrin James, who was selected one pick before Williams, earned $14.8 million as a rookie.

The basic structure of Williams’ contract was pretty simple. He would receive an $8.8 million dollar signing bonus and a minimum base salary over the next seven years (totaling $2.3 million). Everything else would get paid out by meeting performance incentives.

And the Saints we're in no position to low-ball they just traded their entire draft for him. He could have held them hostage.

Jimbo is a college coach, who cares how his QBs do in the pros?

Opinions on Aundray Bruce from AU?

Taken as number 1 overall pick and then proceeded to only start 42 games in 11 years, yet played in 151 games.

Career Stats:

151 games played
4 INT's returned for a total of 11 yards.
1 defensive TD
9 forced fumbles
3 fumble recoveries
32 sacks
264 total tackles.

By stats vs draft position he was a huge bust, but can he really be defined as a bust for playing for 11 years?

Guys that go on to have decade long careers I have a hard time calling a bust. A bust, in my mind, is useless from the get go and out of the league in a few years.

Yeah I had a strong feeling he was going to be a bust. This is coming from a LSU fan.

Ricki Williams is up there, but it has more to do with the Saints trading 8 picks to get him.

8 picks

He was far from a bust

It's considered one of the worst trades in the history on the NFL. That is enough to put it in the discussion of biggest busts.

I don't think you understand how this works

It makes the Saints front office stupid. It doesn't make Ricky a bust. He is 30th all time in NFL rushing yards despite missing 2 of his prime years.

I don't think he was as big a bust as most folks think.
It really isn't JR didn't perform as poorly as many other 1st Round picks. Not his fault the rookie wage scale was what it was and he received that contract, which is what everyone counts against him it seems.

Not a single mention of RG3 yet? A lot of analysts painted him as better than Andrew Luck. He received a ton of praise. He had one good season, and then his career effectively fell off a cliff, and now he’s either a backup or out of football completely
