good enough reason for me.

Med I'd change the following on your Cubs list:
Hundley for Jody Davis
Mark Grace for Derrick Lee
Santo for Ramirez
Earnie Banks for Dunston
Billy Williams for Soriano
Rick Rueschel for Zambrano
Ferguson Jenkins for Wood

Detroit Tigers
CF Curtis Granderson
2B Placido Polanco
1B Miguel Cabrera
DH Cecil Fielder
RF Magglio Ordonez
C Ivan Rodriguez
SS Carlos Guillen
LF Craig Monroe
3B Brandon Inge
SP Justin Verlander
SP Jeff Weaver
SP Edwin Jackson
SP Jeremy Bonderman
SP Edwin Porcello
CP Fernando Rodney (I couldn't bring myself to say Roller Coaster Jones)
If you recognize at lot of current players on this list, it's because Detroit purely sucked through 1994 - 2005, which was about the time I started figuring out what baseball was.

The only one of those guys I've actually seen play is Mark Grace. I debated long and hard about that one, and initially went with Grace, but I think Lee is just as good a fielder and hits for more power and just slightly less avg, so I went with Lee. I agree that the rest of the players in historical context are better than the ones I selected, but I'm not old enough to have seen them play; so they didn't make my list.

It doesn't have everything to do with stats. I saw Mattingly play a little, but I love Tino Martinez for all of the big hits he had in the playoffs from 1998-2001.
