No bs: Cary Elwes.
I mean, hot shots, days of thunder, liar liar he does a spot on accent. It's pretty muffled in Princess Bride. I always thought the quip in Men in Tights was just him being ironic while bashing Costner.

well, to be fair, it's different. supposedly in the UK, another brit can tell (1) where you're from and (2) your social class after 5-10 seconds of speaking. we don't have that in America. gaining that full proficiency of the region/class is probably impossible

Dialects are much more prevalent in Europe, but I think you could do very well if you had to focus on a particular region for a role.

Blame the melting pot. English here is spoken by millions for only 200+ years. Unlike England were English has been spoken on a tiny island for thousands of years. Heck, I'm sure different streets in London have specific quirks. Here, it's totally possible for someone from Virginia to speak pretty much the same as someone from Nevada.

And Scottish as some one else said would also make him British

Y'all can't tell the difference between a Scotsman and a Welshman and a Yorkshireman and a Londoner? It's bloody obvious!
