What was with the hat switch? Felt like it was a callback to something but I couldn’t place it.
May need to do a rewatch soon.

“Dedra panting” was not a subtitle I expected to read. What a great scene.

She's beautiful, irl. She's not bad looking in the show when she takes off her stick-in-the-arse facial expression. Makeup did a good job of making her look more "bureaucratic."

It was, but seeing modded flutes and French horns made me chuckle. I guess Star Wars blasters have always been modded real life guns though.

I took it as two men way in over their heads trying to be covert and accomplishing nothing.

I just read a great Vulture article with an interview of Nicholas Britell, the composer for Andor:
Nicholas Britell Made Andor Sound Nothing Like Star Wars
A few interesting tidbits:
quote:
Andor has a simple opening-credits sequence: the theme plays as the series’ title card and logo surface. But Britell recorded a different version for each episode: sometimes using only synths or cellos, or featuring the entire amateur band that performs at Maarva’s (Fiona Shaw) funeral for the season finale.
quote:
I really like episode nine’s title sequence, the total synth one. It’s so out there from what I imagined I would do for the show. Growing up in the ’80s, I was definitely drawn to that older synth sound, and when I saw it resonated for Tony, I was like, Would there be a way of melding these older synthesizer sounds with the orchestra? And in episode 12, the Ferrix funeral band is playing the main title theme. It was very important that it actually feel like the local townspeople were playing it.
I didn’t even realize this at the time while watching it, but that’s brilliant. So the Andor theme, all along, has been a funeral march… mind blown.
About the Time Grappler (anvil guy on Ferrix):
quote:
Tony lives about 11 blocks from me on the Upper West Side, so he would come over and we’d sit for five to six hours at a time every week, multiple days a week, for months and months. Tony and I actually created that Time Grappler sound using things like pipes in his basement. The Beskar steel is a warped pipe we banged on, and I would do all these manipulations to it.
About covers/remixes in the Star Wars universe:
quote:
I loved working with Tony. I would suggest something, and it was never “No,” it was always “Let’s try it.” The great example is the Niamos piece. That began as on-camera music when you first see Cassian on Morlana One, as he’s going down the stairs from the causeway.
quote:
I remember saying to Tony, “What if this track is an intergalactic hit?” When you’re in the diplomatic scenes, you’re hearing this piece you heard on Morlana, but it’s the lounge version, kind of cool jazz.
quote:
When we got to Niamos, it was very, very clear that that was where this track belonged. There’s that aerial, flying-over shot, and I said to Tony, “There’s only one thing that can go here.” We’re here, party planet! We call that the “Galaxy Mix.” It’s actually the intergalactic version.

Curious, was the black dude really selling Cassian out, or was he playing a part to empty the garrison? I think the latter.
I think he saw an opportunity to make a little money and maybe ingratiate himself with the Empire.
I can see the possibility that he was part of an overall scheme to distract and sow chaos with the Imperial troops, but I don't think that was it. He just got greedy.

There are a ton of real world objects that are hardly dressed or completely unchanged all through the original movies. For example, Death Star control panel in A New Hope was blatantly a TV switch board. They did absolutely nothing to cover that up.

I’ve been listening to the Andor soundtrack at work for the last few weeks and enjoying it. There is an episode 1-4 album and an episode 5-8 album so far.

It’s so well written. So many moving speeches and great lines. This feels like the perfect show for this moment the way it profiles tyranny

Such a great series. The sacrifice speech by Luthen and the rebellion speech by Maarva were so well written and delivered.
Also, this dude is the real MVP.

I still don't get why that bell needs to be rung by a human hammer brother and can't be hit by either a droid or just be a loud speaker. Seems like a waste of a paycheck to have a guy to ring a bell.

Was there ever any doubt that the stormtrooper climbing the tower was going to get wrecked?

I was kind of hoping his head would end up between the two hammers, but I guess we still need to keep it pg-13.

Personally, realistically, she's now locked into the gangster deal, simply by the fact he has some knowledge of her problem
Yes but realistically the deal with the gangster if ever connected will fall back on her husband with his gambling(supposed) that just set up.
I'm talking about the actual gangster; if he's truly connected he'll know ol' boy isn't blowing that much gambling. He'd probably perpetuate that myth to keep things moving, but would also dig deeper to figure out where it's really going. From his point of view, it would be worthwhile to have a senator in a compromised position.
If/when he figures out she's financing terrorist cells, he might reach a different conclusion.
They might have to end up killing him.

He is a gangster and could care less. His involvement relies more on her helping him become more established. If his son were to marry the daughter of a Senator he gains power just on perception. Mon Motha is taking advantage of that now after she realizes it will help her. She is playing the role of a weak woman without a clue to all those around her that have no part in the rebellion but at the same time using them without their knowledge.
Perception is everything under the empire and Mon Motha is creating the perfect cover story. Missing funds are already being accredited to her husband and proposed gambling addiction which apparently he has a history of. She knew the driver was ISB and he did what she wanted him to do and now the suspicion of the money and her involvement is moved to her husband. If someone is a big gambler they usually lose more than they win and have to have ways to get money.
In comes the gangster who Mon Motha after first refusing the idea now sees a path for her and the rebellion. So she agrees to the match which will further support the gambling story she created for her husband. Now it looks as if they owe the gangster because why would a very well respected family and a high ranking senator match their daughter to the son of a well known gangster. A gangster jockeying for position in the ranks of the empire that will make any agreement on the match well known.
The gangster is being used by Mon Motha without his knowledge. He is just another puppet in her master plan to further the efforts of the rebellion. A rebellion now that will take center stage with the empire to uncover their true strength now after what just happen on Ferrix.
Everything Mon Motha has done up to this point has not only been well calculated but done so to gain advantage for the rebellion she is supporting while also always gaining her advantage. And the way the writers have created her story arc.

Why would Mon Motha talk about those things in the car when she said her driver was an ISB plant? Poor writing in a great show.
Man what a fantastic show. Really bummed that we won’t see this story again for over a year
We went back and watched Rogue One last night after the finale and it’s going to be so cool seeing how everyone gets to where they are from where they are now.
Specifically Mon Mothma going from Senator to full on rebel leader at their base. Saw is also in for a rough go of it.
I was curious as to how the timelines match up, if Andor is only a few years ahead of R1, he would have already rescued Jyn, and I guess left her, by this time. Would have been cool if we’d gotten a glimpse of her if she was still with him.
It would also mean Saw and Luthen already know a good deal about the Death Star, or at least that the Empire is building a serious weapon.
Also, do we know how long between Ep 3 and 4 this takes place? Trying to get a feel for where we are in the amount of time since Palpatine took over and how long the actual rebellion was organized.
Hadn’t seen R1 since the theater so I’d totally forgotten about Mikkelson and Mendelson, such a great cast and really set a high bar for where I thought the sequel trilogy was going
Also so very cool that R1 is basically filling in the sort of plot contrivance of A New Hope that there is a massive security vulnerability in this huge military project that a single well placed bomb can destroy the whole moon sized base.
Hope they are able to maintain the quality of this series because it is such a good product right now

This is 4 years before R1 so he has not rescued Jyn yet. The second season as my understanding will finish basically where R1 started with him getting the intel in the beginning.

They have no clue. If you have watched SW Rebels it is also about the same timeline and later in the series(5th season) Saw first showed up on a mission to Geonosis where him and the Ghost crew were exposed to evidence the Death Star was being built but missed it. The first time the Rebellion learns of the Death Star that we know of was in Rogue One.

Sorry, I meant Saw had already rescued her, not Cassian.

But Saw knew Galen Erso and obviously had a strong connection to him as he made sure he would save Jyn, so he had to have had some information as to what the Empire was making Galen do right?
Thanks for helping me try to fill in the gaps here. I haven’t watched any of the animated shows so all of that is new info for me
