I remember going to school after movies like Breakfast Club or Weird Science and everyone was quoting parts of the film. Those are part of popular culture before these others. I'm sure it's the same with the newer gen and the AP franchise, etc though. It's all about when you grew up.
Here's a thread with post 1980's LINK

Back to the Future? I wouldn't consider it that much of a high school movie.
This. It may be one of the OP's favorite movies from when he was in high school but it a "high school movie" it is not.
OP's list is a best movies to people who were kids in the 80's list and nothing more.

no love for teen wolf or cruel intentions?
i agree that there needs to be a clearer definition from the OP. back to the future is in a completely different genre than dazed and confused.
and regarding the arguments about "this movie being better than that movie"... most of these high school flicks aren't "great" movies. they are just entertaining, funny and remind some people of their high school experience.

Wrong. Follows classic HS story archetypes. The time travel is what makes it look like not a HS movie but it is. The sequels are not.
It has high school characters and high school archetypes, but it is not "about" high school. It's about time travel and the supposed repercussions of such. It is primarily a science fiction film. It certainly has elements of high school films, but it's more about romance at that point than it is "about high school."
And you keep scoffing at American Pie, but it is, by its very nature, a film "about" high school, specifically in the late 90s.
If I were making a list of "Best High School Movies," I would probably center it around the generations of films and the quality of their critique on "high school."
Some included:
Porky's
American Graffiti
Grease
American Pie
Breakfast Club
Dazed and Confused
Say Anything
Mean Girls
Fast Times at Ridgemont High/Pretty in Pink
Election
Rebel Without a Cause

Well if there was no discussion to be had, why start a thread on a "Discussion Board?"
