4 pages in and no mention of the "original" Longest Yard?

But... as fantastic as it is... is The Sandlot really even a sports movie?
yes. they lost the ball playing baseball. they want the ball back because of baseball. there is a large amount of baseball in the movie including the opening and closing scenes. this is a hot take that i will not allow.

I can't believe someone hasn't nominated Eight Men Out.

Raging Bull
One of the greatest films, period. American Film Institute ranked it 4, behind Citizen Kane, The Godfather, and Casablanca.

Might as well give a plug to North Dallas Forty...though, I enjoyed the book more.

Baseball brought them together, but the crux of the movie is the kids vs. The Beast, not a baseball game. They spend more time trying to get the ball back than they do actually playing ball.

Thank you. If you're gonna pull this shite ... then you might as well throw in "The Goonies" because it has BMX and Sloth jumps a rope.
Wait up...hold the fricking phone. Are you guys seriously arguing/questioning that Sandlot is a sports movie? I feel like I need to dole out some elbow drops up in here. I feel like we need to pause this thread and make sure we're all on the same page of Sandlot being a sports movie.
The movie is about baseball. The name is the goddamned Sandlot for chrissakes. Everything in that movie, including the beast (and especially his owner), revolves around baseball. How can this even be argued..?
This isn't the same thing as "Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?" (it is IMO, but I can see the arguments against it). This is a very clear-cut sports movie.

Dumb. Obvious answer is Rollerball
Actually we're both wrong, the correct answer to best sports movie ever is......................................
Trey Parker and Matt Stone got robbed at the oscars that year.

But to take this thread in a slightly different direction, one of my favorite movies with a sports subplot: Forget Paris A great sports movie, masquerading as a chick flick.
ok, I see your Forget Paris and raise you Big Lebowski. Great bowling movie masquerading as the greatest movie ever.

For Hockey I always enjoyed Youngblood--lots of very young actors

I don't know about "seriously" but I think it's a valid discussion.

A total chick flick (albeit a really good one) masquerading as a sports flick. There's no doubt about that. Being an NBA ref has no bearing on the movie except that it keeps Micky on the road and away from home...but he could as well have been a traveling salesman.
