Wondery's podcast series on The Black Dahlia murder. The Black Dahlia case is the main focus. But it covers several other murders that happened in Los Angeles around the same time that may or may not have been related.
Most of these were also some of the murder cases covered in L.A. Noire(game).

That guy was good on U&V, but iirc Payne gave him his own podcast and it didn’t last longer than a season. If it did I gave up on it. I got the impression both that guy and Payne got bigger heads than was really deserved from season 1 of U&V
Makes sense. I don’t think I made it past a few episodes of the lawyer’s podcast. He was perfect in Season 1 because of the necessity of explaining everything happening in real time, and he was extremely knowledgeable and pretty likable if I remember correctly.
But like I said, perfect storm, unlikely to ever be recreated. And I’m sure they both did get bigger heads than they deserved, not realizing just how much the stars had perfectly aligned. Seemed to both have personalities that would be susceptible to that.

A really good podcast is hard to beat. The problem is finding them among all of the garbage. Disgraceland and Badlands could be great with a better, less dramatic, host.
I hardly ever listen to podcasts with more than one host/narrator and the podcasts with two BFF females seem to be the absolute worst.

Yeah I agree. I cant really take the girls on Morbid. I did start Sword and Scale yesterday and really like it so far. Very similar to The Devil Within.

Sword and Scale is the best if you can get past the narrator. Mike Boudet is legitimately one of the worst hosts of anything. Just pompous, arrogant, dumb.. all the things.

Crime Junkies is great. Covers some really cool cases and is an ongoing show.
Bardstown is another really good one that’s a limited series but I highly recommend.

The Land of Lies
The Apology Line
Hooked
Hit Man
Criminal
Good Assassins
Some of these are older, but they are pretty good. I don't like the ones with two hosts and lots of banter or the ones with lots of background music. These may be plane Jane to you, but each of these have a good story and tell it straight up.

That was a really good one. Surprised that Dr. Death has only been mentioned twice. I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts, and the majority that have been mentioned, and quite a few of them don't touch Dr. Death. Just a wild story in a different way than your normal true crime.

Came in to say this. It’s murder/comedy, but they do a pretty good job. Only 2.5-3 hours a week, but they work through some crazy cases that most people have never heard of.

Real life real crime is a former Baton Rouge detective. It’s good but very bad language and kinda explicit with autopsy
