I did think about that but at the time I thought they were joined up with HBOMax and he’s all about the new Godzilla/Kong movie so I didn’t want to waste the free 7 days.

Just watched it. Probably not a “good” movie,
Fully expect this board to completely trash it due to political reasons or just to be contrarian.
Take the movie for what it’s worth. It’ll never be close to the original. It’s just a throwback. I’ll watch it to get some laughs out of it. Not expect an Oscar winning performance

Really? Coming 2 America was “blacker” than you expected? The sequel to a movie with an all-black cast? Set in Africa and Queens? Yeah, good point, should’ve had more white people this time. Dick.

Isn't this movie for black people only, I recalled a recent interview how they said they hate working with white people.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, this isn't even close to what was said you absolute snowflake.

The musical bits were the best: what’s better than Morgan Freeman introducing Salt n’ Pepa at a funeral?
Just got to this part. Might be the greatest thing I've seen all year.

I’m about 20 minutes in and I am already extremely disappointed, I hope it gets better than this.

Look at you with the idiotic misinformation in multiple threads today! I'm sure your master will give you a special treat.
Been meaning to rewatch the original before this new one. Been so long since I've seen it that I'm afraid I won't even get all of the callbacks and references.

Living up to the original was off the table. I accepted that before I hit play.
Lots of nostalgia. Some laughs. Some of the cameos were hysterical.
It definitely felt like a film for 2021 as opposed to 1988. By that I mean the Rated-R edge was softened to be more family friendly and some obligatory sentiments on popular social justice issues thrown in too. No indictment of the film; it’s just the age we live in.
All told; it was a fun trip down memory road with some old friends. Didn’t hate it; didn’t exactly love it either. And I’m okay with that.

If you're that far in then it's probably not getting better.

I certainly didn’t expect it to live up to the original, that was a bridge too far.
At an hour in I’ve chuckled a few times, but nothing gut busting.
For a film with a $60 million budget I’m not seeing any of it.
I’m liking Snipes as General Izzi though.

It will be hard to judge whether it does or not if you're posting attention to TD instead of the movie.

And I'm going to watch it. But, I don't feel pressed to.

The topical political parts in the first half were actually the best parts of the movie.
First half of the movie is a try too hard homage but its still WAY better than the rest of the movie which turns into Tyler Perry's Coming To America.
Just over the top and the pacing sucks. Jokes are thrown in your face, they don't land and yes despite being an expected cliche, Leslie Jones wants you to turn it off halfway through.
The problem is the fish out of water in Zamunda is not remotely as interesting as fish out of water in America like the original.
Its worth trying it out for the throwbacks but its not much of a movie. Watching the trailer, that would do enough. It makes sense they sold the movie via the trailer with the American nostalgia scenes, the rest of the movie is a mess.

I agree with this, my favorite part was the band at the end.
It felt like the Bill and Ted recent sequel. It wasn’t as good as the original, but it didn’t take away from the original either.

Honestly the only good parts were this and the funeral. The rest just wasn't funny.

I also LOL’d when the butler-guy sang the high-pitched Prince part in Get Off.

Don’t you have some books to burn? If the film was engaging enough I would guess he wouldn’t pick up his phone.

Spot on analysis. That's how I felt after watching.
