Did Netflix kill TV?

I don't agree with a number of things he says in the video, but I do think it's an interesting discussion.
I still think streaming becomes cable #2 where we will start getting 3rd party companies bundling the various streaming services into one (heck they are already doing this to a small degree).

Millineals and their ‘cut the cord’ bullshite completely destroyed any quality content at a decent price ever again.

Why aren’t streaming services considered TV?

Boomers and Gen X started that in the late 00s.

quote:They are. When people talk about "killing TV", they're usually referring to the ratings and impressions lost on broadcast and cable television. The thing is, a vast portion of broadcast and cable programming is available on streaming, whether live through Hulu, YouTube, etc., or on replay.
Why aren’t streaming services considered TV?
Like Jon Stewart recently said, "It’s like, heroin is heroin whether you snort it or shoot it. It’s still an opiate for the masses, as is television."
And until live sports exit broadcast and cable entirely, and streamers figure out how to provide local news and sports, "TV" won't be dead.

Only for the poor people who were sharing Netflix accounts with three other people and using their parents' log-in for ESPN and HBO.

When was Cable a decent price?
by the time you bought the 6 different packages to get the 6 channels you watched shite was more expensive than all the streaming services combined

Excessive advertising killed tv programming and is now starting to kill streaming.

Netflix killed Blockbuster. Network television killed itself.

Cancel Culture killed TV.
Network Comedies used to be the hallmark of evening tv shows. Now, everyone is afraid of offending someone, comedies are nonexistent.

10 minutes of commercials for every 5 minutes of tv, turning 1 hour shows into 23 minutes of screen time killed TV

Netflix ushered in an era of high quality content during a time when HBO was the only entity producing anything worth a damn. Yeah, there is a ton of garbage on Netflix, but more good stuff than anything that was coming out of the big OTA networks in the late 2000s (yay, another ER ripoff!). Of course you have the issue now of costs rising rapidly to meet the cost of cable.

I'm not sure what killed what, but I do know that most evenings and weekends without sports I am flipping channels for about 30 mins and there is never anything worth watching. So then it is over to Netflix or Prime.
How many game shows, Guy Fieri's, or home renovation shows can there be?
There seems to be a lack of quality original programming on "regular" tv these days
