Anybody that complains about the dream sequences or therapy scenes of this show I realize that I have very little in common with from a viewing experience, and it’s not even worth my breath to argue with. But if you finished the series and still don’t understand the importance of that, then the series flew completely over your head

I'd be interested to see this list

I don't even have a list created. But off the top of my head, even just limiting it to HBO offerings, these are shows I liked better:

The Wire (my #1)
Deadwood
Carnivale
Game of Thrones

Shorter/Miniseries ones:

Hello Ladies
Band of Brothers
Chernobyl
Silocon Valley

ETA: And I'm not saying these are objectively better, just that I enjoyed them more.

If you're too good for me, Mr. Cool Guy, then I'm okay with that I guess.

I got the dream sequence episodes and what they meant/stood for. I just borderline hated every one of them and thought they were stupid/boring. You do realize that it is possible to both understand something and also not like it or think it's pretty dumb, right?

FWIW, I didn't hate the therapy scenes like some others apparently do. Sure, they were boring at times (and Dr. Melfi was annoying as well). But I get their part in the show and why they were there.

I will say that I did think Tony would eventually bang Dr. Melfi, and was a little disappointed that he never did (althogh good for her).

The Wire (my #1)- Never watched it
Deadwood- Never watched it
Carnivale- Never watched it
Game of Thrones- Just watched it last year. Ending sucked

Shorter/Miniseries ones:

Hello Ladies- Never watched it
Band of Brothers-Never watched it
Chernobyl-Never watched it
Silocon Valley-Never watched it

I guess I just realized that I dont watch as much tv as I thought I did.

Completely agree with OP. I can see why it would have been the GOAT of it's time, but watching it now for the first time, there have just been too many good shows released since then that I enjoyed more.

You should remedy that. Amazing show, and beloved on this site.

Seriously, BoB is one of the best miniseries of all time pretty universally (I personally have it #2 all time). If you like WWII or just history at all, you should watch it. Like this weekend. Or tonight. It's that good.

Chernobyl was outstanding as well, and I'd highly recommend that especially if you were alive and remember it. It's fantastic.

But Band of Brothers though...stop what you're doing and watch it. You won't be disappointed. I can't recommend it highly enough, and I'm sure most here would agree.

GoT did not stick the landing for sure, but it's still excellent, top-notch television.

Also, the mother/son issues were aggravating.

That's funny considering the series was written by David Chase to explore issues he had with his own mother. Tony was just the vessel for that concept.

Oh, I know!

Just hated all the back and forth between them. Reminded me of my own mom that I don't get along with.

These are not my favorite.

they were very unintentionally funny for me

If you watch Sopranos as a comedy it is so much better. It’s hilarious. I’ve watched through 5 or more times. It gets funnier each time.

It’s top 2 for me. Wire is #1. Sopranos is #2.

Sopranos is definitely one of the GOATs but your gripes about season 6 I agree with. Still though that show just is so engrossing and had a little bit of everything - drama, comedy, action

See this is what I mean. It's good, even really good. High quality. But nowhere near GOAT status for me. Like not in my top 10 or even 20 most likely. But admittedly I think that's because I waited so long to watch it.

I will very patiently wait for you to name 10, let along fricking 20, shows that are better than The Sopranos.

at that list. To me, besides Breaking Bad, it's the greatest show of all time. No question about it. I love The Wire too, but I like The Sopranos better.

I don’t think one could appreciate any series watching it in such a disjointed manner.

I’ve watched it probably 3x through. Still love it.
But the points you make are pretty valid. Never cared for the dream episodes.

That's valid, and may have something to do with it as well.

I'm on S5 of a rewatch. I agree, as I'm laughing way more than I remember laughing at it.

Artie gets me every time - him thinking he can bag Adriana, the earring, loaning money to that guy for wine venture, then going to collect and getting beat up, etc...
