Yeah, at the end, when they're in the kitchen and Nathan is telling Caleb that Ava had a third option that Caleb hadn't thought of - she was pretending to like him. Then, Nathan explains how she uses guile, manipulation, etc. to get Caleb to help her escape, and that this was proof that she had true AI.

From what I remember, Nathan didn't necessarily say he programmed her that way. He just simply said something like, "Caleb, perhaps there's a third option you haven't considered."

Caleb looks confused and say something like, "What do you mean, Nathan?"

And then Nathan says, "Well, what if Ava is just pretending to like you?"

I think it's a jump to assume that conversation means that Nathan 100 percent programmed her to escape.

Exactly, he doesn't say he programmed her. He infers that if she truly is a developing AI then he must consider that she could be manipulating Caleb for the purpose of escape.

Honestly, forget the deep story line. The entire movie won me over at this moment....

I'll have to watch ipt again, but I'm pretty sure he says that this was her objective all along. When Nathan reveals that the tearing of the picture, etc. is just a farce, he tells him that deception was Ava's goal all along.

Why were her tits as a robot without the skin bigger than her tits when she put the skin on?

Guess the gotcha was she was she picked self preservation over the human when her character was displaying/ saying that she like the guy

i think the final part of AI becoming sentient involves self preservation

sentient beings engage in self preservation when they comprehend being alive...otherwise there is no need for it

So is this movie supposed to be the art film du jour?

it's not artsy at all

this is much more tarantino then refn, with all of the dialogue and social unraveling through dialogue and character interactions

Watched it Thursday night and loved the whole film. The ending was done beautifully IMO.

I thought it was weird how Nathan didn't have a few more security protocols setup in his compound. You'd think he would have a more secure setup than card swiping

you know this movie did its job by making a bunch of nerds turn an 8 into a 10 in their minds after seeing this movie

Mad Max and Ex Machina are much better films than any of the other shite-flicks you listed.

I respect that your taste in movies dictates that.

I liked Ant-Man. I like comic book movies. I like the stories in them and how they connect each other.
You seem too want to be so against what the masses like and go see, that you can't even enjoy a cool movie like Ant-Man or Furious 7 for what they are.

I'm glad i watched Ex-Machina. Won't watch it again, but i liked it for the most part.
I wish i had not wasted part of my life watching Mad Max. That's just how i feel. Just thought it was boring, pointless and just terrible.

I got more of a Kubrick vibe from it, full of placid intensity with the occasional outburst.

I thought it was ok and accept no one agrees with me. Great acting, but the actual story is siy and I don't buy the last third of the movie which I found exceptionally silly.

I could buy it. The point of the test was to see if Caleb would attempt to save AVA, and thus proving conclusively he thinks she has consciousness. He selected Caleb because he was likely to do this if he could be convinced of her sentience. Hell, after seeing that video on what he did to the others, I'd want to save her from Nathan's wrath. Granted I felt as played as Caleb was in the end, but it made sense on what Ava did.
