It was quite emotional wasn't it? In simple terms, they all died at different times but they met up to cross over to the afterlife. The flash sideways was sort of a purgatory to join together.
Everything on the island happened, they did not die in the crash.

Why the frick did that dude tell Claire no one else could raise the baby? This was like a HUGE deal for a while there and exactly zero came from it. Nothing.
I waited until the last fricking episode expecting something to come of this, and nothing ever did. One of several storylines that I got zero closure on (don't even get me started on Walt)

Honestly, Jacob was terrible, and deserved to be stabbed by Ben. In fact he was egging Ben on to do it. Plus the Big Good throws his brother down into a pit where he knows for a fact that a fate worse than death awaits him, only because he killed a woman who murdered their own mother and then massacred everyone else in the Island. I really hate that episode that goes into their past. I'm really not sure if what happened was they got all their lines mixed up, and Jacob was the one who was supposed to be special.
