Some forgetable B-movie at the drive in. Remember the T@A, not the movies from then.

1983...I was 13 and a buddy of mine invited me and a few friends to the movie for his birthday. Somehow, his Dad thought it was a great idea to go to see this. To this day I'm sure his mom had no fricking clue...

My parents just didn't care and neither did most of my friend. I rented what videos I wanted. They filled out the little form that said I could rent whatever I wanted to and so I did. Never tried for the soft core porn, but I was tempted. My Dad did look at me funny when he got a late fee for Natural Born Killers. Apparently, that was pushing it a bit too far.

I can remember the first time I was turned away from an R movie at the theater. I had been seeing R movies for years with no problem and they wouldn't let me in to see Crow: City of Angels. I had my Mom come back up there and buy the tickets and then after she got back in the car and drove away they said she had to come in and sit with us. WTF? I forget what we actually ended up seeing...

If you go back and watch some of the old movies from your childhood you will be shocked. I'm talking Goonies, Monster Squad, Stand By Me, Karate Kid, ET, the Gate, Bad New Bears etc. Man those kids cuss up a storm, disrespect the hell out of their parents, always have a porn stash, and they SMOKE! All the cool kids smoked in the 80s and 90s.

From reading everybody's posts it seems like the 80's and 90's R ratings were more because of violence than sex scenes while the 70's R movies were more sexually oriented.

You're probably right. Also I don't think the parents were as concerned about possible negative influences in "kids" movies. A little swearing, smoking, and side boob was okay back then. Hell I burned a copy of the Last Unicorn for my niece to watch two weeks ago and about spit out my drink when one of the characters dropped a "Goddamn YOU!"

Oh here's another one. I remember watching Robocop 2 with my Dad and Mom. Mom left because it was too violent and my dad and I made fun of her for it.

Schindler's List

I was in 8th grade and I had a report to write on Auschwitz and my mom thought it would be a good idea to watch this movie to help me. I ended up getting an A so I guess it worked.

My Dad lied to my Mom and took me to see this one since he wanted to see it so bad.

Not really sure why it was rated R. I don't remember much from it.
