Just about all those 'kid' stars went on to have solid careers anyways. Imagine if this show had ran for a few years and it had really caught mass appeal.

Yeah they kept moving the nights it was on too. It was insanely frustrating watching it when it was on.

Loved it. Much like My So Called Life, didn’t get enough respect from the network execs for what they were trying to do.

Was in tears in bed watching the episode last night where Kim has Lindsay over to meet her insane family.

I started a rewatch because of this thread as well and just finished that episode yesterday too. Such a great episode.

Tee guidance counselor Mr. Rosso is a fantastic side character as well. Last night I watched the episode where they get fake ID's to see this band they like, only to find out it is actually Mr. Rosso as the lead singer.

Him and Lindsay's dialogue in the girlfriends and boyfriends episode...

Mr. Rosso: So… I understand you and Nick Andopolis are getting pretty tight. How’s that going?
Lindsay: Mr. Rosso, Nick and I are just friends. That’s all.
Mr. Rosso: Hey, no need to explain anything to me. I got it on in a van at Woodstock so I’m not judging anybody.

Mr. Rosso: You’ve got to be careful these days.
Lindsay: Yeah, I know. I know.
Mr. Rosso: Do you? I thought I knew to. Until one night I was checking out this discotheque, the one in the bowling alley on 15 Mile. I met this girl, she seemed really nice. We danced a bit, I kissed her. One thing lead to another. And now I get sores on my lip once a month. I have herpes. It doesn’t hurt that much but believe me, you don’t want it.
Lindsay: Can I please go now?
Mr. Rosso: I just blew your mind, didn’t I?

That dude is hilarious.

Great show that had low ratings due to irregular time slots.

If they tried to make this now, they would ruin it.

quote:

What were the suits thinking when they cancelled these 2 shows?

Never watched firefly, probably should. But Freaks was on Saturday nights and had low ratings. It was just in a bad time slot and would move the show due to other events.

Apatow was offered to revive it on MTV with a smaller budget and declined.

quote:

Apatow, however, declined an offer from MTV to make a second season with a smaller budget. “We all decided we didn’t want to do a weaker version of the show,” Apatow told IndieWire in 2021.

Some more interesting tidbits.

quote:

Apatow told Vanity Fair in 2013 that he has jumped at opportunities to cast actors from Freaks and Geeks in his later work and that he looks at his subsequent work with those actors as extensions of the adventures of their Freaks and Geeks characters. In A&E’s Cultureshock, Segel described this as “a Count of Monte Cristo-style revenge mission on Judd’s part” to systematically make famous all of the young actors he cast in Freaks and Geeks, in part because of his sense that the show was unjustly canceled.

quote:

The show’s crew of writers, producers, and directors have also gone on to create or work on many successful films and television shows. Writer and producer Mike White created the award-winning anthology television series The White Lotus (2021– ).

quote:

Feig and director Ken Kwapis went on to direct and produce episodes of the popular sitcom The Office (2005–13), and Feig also produced and/or directed episodes of other beloved television shows, including the cult-classic sitcom Arrested Development (2004–05), Mad Men (2007), and Weeds (2005–07), along with many successful comedy films, such as Bridesmaids (2011).

Lots of talent came from that show.

This scene alone shows how damn good an actor Martin Starr is.

quote:

Starr was born in Santa Monica, California, the son of actress Jean St. James.] In an interview with Wired, Starr said that he felt "frustrated and depressed" at 22 due to lack of offers in the years after Freaks and Geeks was cancelled. He had fired his agent and decided to quit acting altogether; however, a few years later he was offered Knocked Up, and other offers then started to come his way.

This thread may make me do a rewatch soon. I am in the middle of The Leftovers, but may watch F&G again once that is done. I remember watching it as it aired on TV, but I assume back then I missed some episodes because of how much it shifted and that was back in the time before DVRs or even TiVo. But I remember liking it when I did see it.

And I rewatched it with my stepdaughter about 4-5 years ago and she absolutely loved it. It still holds up really well.

Undeclared is decent, but it doesn't hold a candle to F&G at all. It's college, more comedy-centric, and just doesn't have anywhere the same feel as F&G. And that's not a knock on it, but more of a testament to how good F&G really is. But Undeclared is worth a watch if you do finish the series and are still itching for a little bit of the same thing.

WTF. You didn't start a thread. I would have jumped in. I'd love to chat it up about this one.

Figured I'd give this one a go on my own. Plus I didn't want to be tied to a per-week episode limit. I assume I'll start a thread once I'm done with it depending on how much I like it (or hate it). It's pretty good so far though. I'm on S2E1.

Season 2 is a pretty wild ride. I for sure like it better than S1 and I love S1. Not sure if you've already watched S2, EP1 but it's great. Very weird.

S2 is weird so if you got questions, just start a thread and I'm sure we could answer them. Googling questions about The Leftovers is a good way to get a lot of spoilers.

I've watched about half of S2E1. And I am not a big fan of it so far.

My biggest concern is getting some sort of conclusion on what happened to the people that vanished. I know the show is about the people "left over," but that mystery seems to push the entirety of the show so I'd like to at least get some answers toward that end, even if they don' fully break down and explain everything. I've heard that it has a satisfying ending, so I am hopeful it satisfies me enough.

I did like S1, but it wasn't as gripping as I thought it would be. And the Sheriff is one of the worst decision makers I've ever seen. But I'm along for the ride though, so I'm interested to see where it goes.

It was actually cancelled before all the episodes aired. If someone had only watched it then, they haven't seen all 18 episodes.

Yea you get an answer to that. More towards the end of the series one character's story line progresses towards needing to know for sure what happened and seeking answers.
