The Vietnam half of the movie is great, but the first basic training half is just SO fricking good that any second half would've paled in comparison. Just because basic training was so awesome doesn't mean the Vietnam half sucked.
I completely agree, my only quibble with the Vietman parts is it looks like they were filmed in England and not Vietnam

Nice of AlaJones to be polite in welcoming the new guy politely. And I agree with his assessment. Love the entire movie. I'm a Kubrick fan for the most part. He's not the end all be all or anything, but I really enjoy his movies.

It is a good flick, maybe even better than the one they ripped off, but I still cant stand the guy that made it getting so much credit when all he did was rip off the great unknown film The Boys in Company C, though he had a better cast and more money and thus a better product.

I disagree, I love all of it.
Two movies in one and kicks arse in both.

I wasn't putting it in the same class as the other 2 movies; I was giving an example of the 2 movies in one thing. And speaking of PH, I guess Titanic would count also.

The common opinion of this movie is that it is awesome in Basic Training, and sucks in Viet Nam.
Some people feel this way.

Others this way, Im in this group.
I think this represents the duality of man, the Jungian thing.

Anyone see the movie Jarhead? I watched it the other day. Pretty funny, an ok movie but not nearly as good as Full Metal Jacket.

I've actually seen bits and pieces, but never the whole thing.

Yeah. It was ok. But nothing too memorable about it.
