I'm thinking that some folks were expecting Carter to come back and hit it out of the park with six amazing episodes. But what we're getting is your basic X-Files (which I'm fine with).
The first two episodes have the feeling of being from some of the better X-Files seasons. I have high hopes for next week's monster episode.

Duchovny has made his whole career off of "dry wit"

He's always been like that.

See, I always thought his Californication character was just like Fox Mulder. That's just how Duchovny is. He was the same in that softcore porn show he did.

I finished the first episode. How can it suddenly be a conspiracy of men and not aliens when it was the alien rebels who torched the Syndicate members waiting for their ride to wherever from the alien colonists?
Are they just making this shite up as they go along with no care for continuity?

Basically they're trying to convince the audience that the Syndicate isn't the end of the chain, and that there was an even higher and shadowier group of people convincing the Syndicate that an alien takeover was imminent.
I however, don't buy that. I think they're setting it up to not be a government conspiracy just with how outrageous Joel McHale's character is.
You also have to remember that the whole world was supposed to end in 2012 with the alien invasion clock. Since that didn't happen, the writers kind of painted themselves into a corner where they needed to retool the Shadow Government.

I have come to hate Monster of the Week episodes on most shows, just give me the main story arc, not this filler. But X-Files does MoW so damned well. Episode 2 was great, it's just a very well crafted show. There wasn't any wasted screen time, it's not like so many shows today where you can play with your phone and watch at the same time, in fact I had to rewind multiple times because my wife was on her laptop and asked "what just happened?"

I don't know if I'd consider episode 2 a true "monster of the week" episode. I think since it involved the government experimenting on alien hybrid kids, it kind of ties into the overall story arc.
Now next week's episode looks like a true "monster of the week" episode.

Just watched first two episodes today, may be nostalgia talking but mother of God both episodes were phenomenal.

The ratings are good? That honestly surprises me. I didn't think episode 1 was very good and it was delayed behind football. Episode 2 was great but I didn't know people watched it.
If they order more episodes I'm gonna be so happy.

Yeah the ratings were actually very high for both episodes...the article I linked made fun of fox for the fact that their highest rated show right now is a 23 year old reboot

Just watched the first two episodes. I loved them. Very good. Next week will be the first monster of the week and I can't wait. I love the MOTW episodes.

How are they going to do that when they showed the Syndicate meeting with the colonists?
I only got through season 6 during the original run right after the Syndicate ended. Is the remainder of the original series and this mini series going to result in no conclusion? Are they just going to string us along?

finally got around to watching episode 2. It was very Fringesque if you know what I mean. I enjoyed it. Episode 4 is the one to watch out for.

Seriously? The return of the X-Files is a pretty big deal. The first two episodes could have been awful (though they were good) and still have gotten fantastic ratings.

Just watched episode 3 (the were-monster) and thought it was a ton of fun. Back in the day the comedy episodes were some of my favorites and this one was hit a lot of the right notes. Maybe slightly too self-referential but a very enjoyable hour of television.

Very entertaining episode tonight
Nice cameo for X-Files super fan and podcaster Kumail Nanjiani
Comedian Rhys Darby was the monster
Tyler Labine came back to The X-Files after 20 years and reprised his role of "Stoner" from season 3's "War of the Coprophages" and "Quagmire" He was the guy huffing spray paint
