I love westerns and have been wanting to see this but have been seeing a lot of mixed reviews.

I will watch it regardless but just curious what the boards take is.

I saw episode 1. It’s a little slow but I believe it is setting the plot for episodes 2-4. I hope it gets better.

I've seen it. It was interesting enough, but not typical story-telling. Some of the movie is corny Western cliches that we've seen before. There were some boobies, so it has that going for it. By itself, I can't really recommend it. Maybe it'll all come together when they release Part 2. If you're a Western fan, then definitely watch it. Otherwise...

If you like westerns, you should like it. But you have to go in with the mindset that it’s mostly setting up movies that will likely never be made, with the exception of Part 2.

I’m going to watch it. I felt a bit guilty about not seeing it in theaters. But when it comes to 3+ hour movies I’m watching that at home where I can pause the movie, pee, get snacks, etc. on my own time.

I loved it

It's converging storylines of people from all over trying to end up in the same place

Kinda like how the West was settled in the first place

It's worth a watch as we don't get grandiose epics like that made anymore

Its worth watching but you have to realize that this is just part 1 of a bigger story, if not, it will be confusing and rather pointless with all the characters introduced in a relatively short amount of time. I think Costner's character is kind of a retard though.

his only hope is for some streaming service to fork over some money for the rest to get made
It may be a year before any streaming service can show the first saga as they are trying to recoup money through on demand first

Absolutely loved it. Beginning is a little slow until the Apaches show up then it gets real interesting real quick

Little slow but i figure thats because he is setting up the storylines for the next few movies. I may sneak off to the movie theater on my own and watch the next part solo. That would be a nice relaxing watch.

If you judge it as a stand alone movie it’s horrific. That can’t be argued. Obviously it isn’t planned on being that, but it’s just a statement of fact. a movie even if part of a trilogy or anything else should always be able to stand by itself as well. This one didn’t and it’s struggling because of it. The original Star Wars, lord of the rings, etc all stand on its own. This movie doesn’t. It 100% needs more for it to be worth anything at all

In saying that, I loved the scenery and setting and am pumped about the future and am not sour at all on the project.

I truly don’t know why he didn’t do a tv release especially with how popular streaming is now anyway. This would have been perfect for the modern day lonesome dove

Beautiful movie.
Definitely some overly long or unnecessary scenes.
Solid acting all around.
Lots of storylines, can get a little convoluted but manageable.

It's part 1 of a TV show. It's not a movie in any way.

Extremely bloated, slow, incoherent at times, and meandering narrative. Essentially nothing happens and you'll like it.

I was extremely hopeful for this film when it came out. Even saw it in theater.

Watched it again on VOD and I just kept thinking about Heaven's Gate. It's that much of a mess at times.

Apparently pt 2 was already in the can and should have been released this weekend, and a lot of pt 3 principle photography was shot, but pt 4 was not.

I honestly don't know what they do with the project now. No one will spend another dime if they don't get a streaming deal, and you can't release pt 2 if you don't have the entire second half of your story.

And you can't pay for reshoots and re-edits to take what footage you already have and wrap up the story. They're really screwed unless Paramount buys it and starts promoting it during the next seson of Yellowstone. But it seems Costner has burned that bridge with Sheridan, so who knows.

What was that last 5-10 minute segment? Was it an abbreviation of events concluding that one or a prelude to the next installment? Kinda odd placement. Also there were a couple of time jumps that kinda lacked a good reference point indicating that it was that.

It was basically a “this season on horizon” type of montage

Wtf, this is a huge disappointment. I sadly contributed to the shitty box office as I don't go to the movies much anymore, but I was really looking forward to this on streaming. I hope the rest do come out and it sounds like part 2 will at least.

Of the 5 storylines there was only one I was even remotely interested in and it was Luke Wilson who isn’t even pretending to live in the 1860s, leading people across the plains states

But nothing about this movie made me want to see three, two, or even one more

I like a good western, but not any and all westerns. This didn't do it for me. It's like everybody showed up and they did their lines and went home. I know it's hard for originality in a script for this , but damn it was so....generic.

I have to say this was stupid, "stay tuned for next week's horizon". It reminded me of the end of back to the future 2 showing a preview of 3
