is the guy who at some point becomes the night king one of the characters in this show?
The Night King was not in the books, it was an invention for the HBO show by the showrunners and not Martin.

He was most definitely a bastard, same as Rhaenyra’s kids.
In fact, the parallels are pretty strong. Rhaegar secretly had an affair with a Baratheon and Jon Snow was the outcome.
What???
Rhaegar married Lyanna Stark after having his previous marriage annulled. Lyanna's baby was Rhaegar's. Jon was a trueborn heir.

The version in the show was/has not (been) in the books, but the Night King was definitely mentioned multiple times in the books (which books, I don't recall). If I am remembering correctly, it was a Commander of one of the forts on the wall that named himself the Night King. I think there was some speculation of supernatural things and his end was ambiguous. It wasn't a present day character but one mentioned by present day characters.
ETA: Now that I looked it up on the wiki, it looks like the book version was called the Night's King.

Right.
And Gendry wasn't half-Targaryen, he was half-Baratheon-- one of King Robert Baratheon's bastard sons.
Sheesh...

It was a nickname of the 13th commander of the watch that became a folk tale and isn't known to be linked to Blue Skinned Ice Wight Show Guy. Jon was the 998th commander of the watch, so we're talking like 7000 years ago regardless. Not gonna come up in HOTD.

Again, bastards have been legitimized in the realm and have been given credence.
Yeah, but those all seem to be cases of powerful men sowing their wild oats, not women.
There's probably a double standard when it comes to women cheating on their husbands and getting pregnant.

eh, just curious. didn't necessarily mean it would come up. but, i guess he is able to ride the dragon because he brought it back to "life"?

***SPOILERS FOR GOT***
Did you miss the part where they (Lyanna and Rhaegar) secretly got married?

Bronc
Do you understand a bastard is someone born out of wedlock?
If so then I have no idea how you come to the conclusion Jon was a bastard from a Baratheon.
Rhaenyra’s off spring are not like Jon, but are rather like Gendry.
Who was only a threat because none of Roberts children with the queen weren’t actually his. This is apples and oranges completely.
If anything Rhaenyra’s children should be denounced as not heirs and should fall to the queen and kings children.
But again that’s the entire point of the show

What haven't really seen mentioned, but I think is somewhat important is that there should be a difference between being the bastard of a noble and a pleb and being the bastard of two nobles.

To be fair to Bronc, I think that was just a brain fart. With how much he seems to know about the books, he would know it was Stark and Targ, ice and fire.

Stark and there I think he secretly got married to Nedd’s sister.
Robert Baratheon was betrothed to her.
