I think Inception was a better movie, but I thought Leo was better in Shutter Island. The scene where he came home to his wife and kids by the lake was one of the toughest movie scenes I've ever watched.

Dude...see more movies. Shutter Island has DiCaprio, Kingsley, Max von Sydow, Michelle Williams, Jackie Earle Hayley, Mark Ruffalo all being directed by Scorcese based on a Dennis Lehane book...
And it is proof that you cant just expect a great movie just because you have a big budget and a long list of names.
The movie was predictable and lazy. It was too drawn out for what the plot was. I did not enjoy this movie.

Oh, and I would choose Inception for this thread. I agree with Baloo that it's one of the best Hollywood blockbusters ever. It's what movies should strive to be...IMO.

Shutter Island sucked, movie was really disappointing

Definitely created a sick feeling in my stomach.

I didn't love the movie, I'm just saying "a polished turd" doesn't really fit.

Considering this board had a 20 or 30 page thread debating what the ending meant, I find the term "predictable and lazy" to be completely off the mark. We can't even reach consensus on what happened, which pretty much shows that it wasn't predictable. And Shutter Island might be a bit of a mess, but lazy? If anything, it's too ambitious.

debating the end of shutter island or inception?
I can see an inception ending debate, but shutter island??? I though the ending was very straight forward much unlike the proverbial mind-frick that was the ending of inception. Also, im not saying your opinions are wrong, but i am just stating mine. They are opinions for a reason.

I will disagree on the intriguing story. I guessed the ending after about 30 min or whenever they introduced the missing patient. saying it was great before it started filming is a retarded statement btw. A film can only be judged by its end product, example: star wars ep. 1. Great cast, Revival of the Saga, George Lucas, big budget, Major letdown...

Shutter Island. We had about a 100 page thread on Inception.
You stated an opinion, and I'm presenting evidence to refute your opinion. That's how debate works. Of course it's a matter of personal taste whether you like a movie, and I'm not objecting to someone not liking Shutter Island, I'm objecting to "predictable and lazy". Shutter Island is neither of those two things.

That would be impressive if you were.

It could just be a difference in taste and opinion. What were your thoughts on Super 8?

It was gooey nostalgia that made me feel warm and fuzzy, over memories of watching ET as a child.

Shutter Island for me. Its style appeals to my tastes more than Inception did. Leo was great in both movies but I felt like his acting in Shutter Island was incredible.

I liked them both, but I liked Inception more.

Probably Inception (altho I haven't seen it yet)

Inception, and it's not close. Not because Shutter Island isn't good, but because I believe Inception is one of the best Hollywood blockbusters ever made.
Agreed.
Inception, despite its few flaws, did a lot very, very well while respecting the viewer at the same time. The film was proof that something with more depth than the average blockbuster can rake in tons of money.
