It's awful. I never got the hype. Cranston was a sniveling idiot with his wife and Jesse was a terrible side kick but. Walter was a stone cold dealer. Puhleeze

Breaking Bad premiered on cable television in 2008. You have to watch it knowing that when it came out, nothing besides The Shield had been similar to its dark tone, gritty elements, and disturbing material.

FX also had Rescue Me and Nip/Tuck, and AMC itself had Mad Men on a few months (year maybe?) prior to Breaking Bad - but otherwise I agree with you - for "non-premium" cable networks, this was all groundbreaking.

I'm kind of in the same boat you are. Some episodes are great, but some of it is a little over the top. I got to about where the money laundering attorney came in and stopped.

It's not that the first couple of seasons are bad, it's that BB fans talk about it as a God send. Someone on here even claimed it was modern Shakespeare.
This. It's a very good show but it is ridiculously overrated on here and in general.

I liked the wire, the sopranos, and mad men better.

Same. I watched it about a year ago and never came close to bring blown away. It was a good show but it is easily the most hyped show on this board and I think that made me set my expectations too high. I found myself bored and had to kind of power through the last two seasons. I have a friend who just started it and she thinks it is amazing so I guess it's just different taste.

It's a hard watch for people who like to have a clear cut protagonist. This show intentionally makes you root for bad people, and then as the story unfolds, you switch to rooting against them. It's a bit manipulative in that way, but it's an amazing peice of art because of it.

I mean I guess. But BB is just one of a number of shows where the protagonist(s) are doing bad or criminal things. Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, Shameless. etc.

Yes, you haven't even met the real villain of the show or Saul Goodman yet. That's when it gets really good.

My problem is that I don't relate to the whole premise of BB. The drug scene at any level was never my scene.

I didn't realize you had to relate to the premise in order to be interested in a show.

I loved it from the beginning, but it does get better. If you're not into by season 3 just hang it up, its not your show.

You have to get the feels for the characters. Then it becomes the goat....

Its all about the characters and how awesome they are
