Now all they have to do is paint these on the walls of the Denver Airport.

Hell yeah, there are several Fawcett characters on there. Seems like that means there's a good chance they are going to bring back Captain Marvel and company. Hopefully, it would be a more classic take on the character instead of the angry idiot kid they've made him from New 52 on.

Is that the ambiguously gay duo in the second one?

Having Vibe in there has to be some kind of inside joke.

The instagram post has these higher res versions

It looks like the black characters are Amazing Man and Freedom Beast, Gunn liked a reply with that guess

Couple notes: Gunn clarified this is “Maxwell Lord’s version”, not really sure what that means though. He also said Dr Fate was there but nobody can guess which one he is so far.

It also looks similar to the JSA Golden Age cover

Also on Silent Knight;
quote:

In DC Comics lore, Sir Brian Kent, also known as the Silent Knight, is a figure from 6th-century England who shares some lineage with Jonathan Kent, Superman's adoptive father. The Silent Knight was a knight in Arthurian Britain and even had adventures with the Knights of the Round Table and Merlin. He is considered a possible ancestor of Jonathan Kent, making him a distant relative of Superman

Two eras of Max Mercury being included seems like a hint that we'll be seeing him at some point.

I guess technically anyone can be Dr Fate, but no one in these murals has the helmet so I'm not sure what he means by that.

ETA: Silent Knight's helmet sort of resembles the Fate helmet? Best I've got.

I see the one that pulls up in google images as the classic take with the high collar but which is the second version?

Maybe somehow it’s Maxwell Lord on the far right? He’s the only other realistic one if they change the backstory somewhat

The other one is between Miss Liberty and Super Chief.

Certainly possible.

In superhero comics, any characters sharing the same surname are eventually “revealed” to be related. Writers can’t help themselves. Forty years of Roy “Speedy” Harper and Jim “The Guardian” Harper coincidentally having the same last name, then they’re great uncle and nephew. Same with Larry “Air Wave” Jordan and Hal “Green Lantern” Jordan (uncle and nephew).

If DC hired me to create a throw-away character, I’d give him the last name “Wayne” (knowing some later writer would make him a Batman character).

Nope. Adams wasn’t really active in comics in the 80’s. He was too busy building his advertising agency at the time. Chuck Patton was the artist:

The “Detroit League “ was DC’s attempt to turn the JLA into an X-men clone: a couple core members of the old league with a bunch of new “ethnic” members. George Perez hated Vibe because he was a stereotype. It caused some friction at DC. But it was the catalyst for bringing Martian Manhunter back into active publication again, so I liked that.
