probably one of current show's weaknesses, the contributors are pretty weak currently

The show will be missed because there's nothing like it on TV. Sure, it's liberal satire, but as many have pointed out, the other liberal satire shows are uniformly terrible (except for John Oliver). He was a vital day-in, day-out media critic who called the networks out on their propaganda and bullshite. He practically got Crossfire cancelled all on his own, and his destruction of Jim Cramer is still one of the greatest things ever.
And he used his political clout, usually, for worthy and bipartisan causes. His charities deal with getting health care for 9/11 responders. He's been on of the most outspoken critics of the crappy state of the VA, and his segment on it actually broke a stalemate on the Hill regarding a bill on VA reforms and funding. He's liberal, but first and foremost, he has a low threshold for bullshite. And he's been the best bullshite detector on TV, rising up where most media critics have failed horribly.
But I'll miss him most because his show was one of the last places authors and statesmen could show up and talk to a wide audience. His penultimate week guests included David Halberstam and Doris Kearns Goodwin. None of the other late night hosts would touch a guest like that, which is a shame (maybe Colbert will, I have hope).
The show is in its decline, which is why it was wise to end it. But in a shrill age, it was nice to have a voice that wasn't shrieking rage, but instead bemused "bwwa?" And it, most importantly, did not preach cynicism and disengagement, which I have nothing but contempt for. His comedy asked the audience to be more engaged and to actually care about things, instead of holding everything at a distance via ironic detachment. That is the coward's way.

It's ironic because his show had its own agenda that it shoved down its audiences throats.
I enjoyed it for a time, but got annoyed at how one sided it seemed most of the time. I don't care to identify with a particular party, but I can't stand how unfair and one-sided some shows are.

To call out bullshite?
I'm not even liberal and he calls out everyone. People just call it liberal because our party leaders do so much stupid shite nowadays that it's easy as hell to attack. Look at what a fricking mess we're in right now with 15 or whatever candidates. Just this morning I had to be reminded of Rick Perry's "Im cutting three government organizations" "Ok Rick, what 3 would those be" "uh.... whoops"
His roast of Mike Huckabee over his Beyonce comments was fricking epic.

I think I'd donate $500 to try and get the Duggers on his show.
Would never happen though because they're inbred retarded.
The Cramer roast was also freaking epic. He almost started crying.

His last day will be a sad day for America.
If someone would have mentioned how they missed the show since it went off the air 5 yrs ago, I wouldn't have known they were messing with me. I didn't know it was still on and won't miss a beat when it is gone. And neither will most of America.

I don't think he had an agenda he shoved down people's throats. He certainly leans left and makes no bones about it. He was more into calling out the lunacy and fear mongering that goes on at Fox News.
He frequently had guests on he completely disagreed with and would have pretty honest and fair discussions with them.

Agree 100%.
During that Cramer roast he says "we tell people we are selling snake oil".
Most people just can't handle him cuz he's smart and quick witted as frick. And generally pretty damn reasonable about most things. Some of the left stuff is over the top, but he's an old NY jew. It's not surprising.
A legend nonetheless.

Honestly, as someone who leans more to the right I have more contempt for Fox News and what they do than what Stewart does for half an hour 4 nights a week

I'm curious...
Is everyone planning on continuing watching the show when Trevor Noah takes over?
I think I'm signing off with Jon.

I might check out an episode or two, but I think the magic is gone. Jon Stewart had the perfect personality for this, knowing the sweet spot between serious and comedy.

I still remember that awful show he had on MTV back in the 90s. That should have killed his career. How he survived that only to be given another show is still a mystery to this day. He must have dirt on somebody.

I gave wilmore a shot, so Noah can't be worse......right?

I've watched Daily Show since Kilborn so this is kinda a big bummer for me. It sucks. John Oliver is great but only weekly. The new guy taking over Daily Show might be good, I dunno, but it'll be different. I wish Oliver just took Stewarts place.
