It's the Nemesis. For a while I though that both the Nemesis and Jacob could take the form of anyone, living or dead, and manipulate the survivors/others' actions. But recently, the writers said that other than "The Incident" we've never seen Jacob, either as his self or taking the form of another.
However, my theory could be shot to shite if the Cabin was acting as a prison for the Nemesis. In "The Incident," they make a point to show the broken circle of ash around the cabin and Illana says "that he (Jacob) hasn't been here for a long time and someone else has been using it." It's possible that the are setting up a scenerio where the Nemesis was imprisoned in the Cabin behind the ring of ash and Locke, unknowingly, released him when he visited the Cabin in Season Four.
This would kill my theory that the Nemesis has been taking the form of Christian to play the game, because we've been seeing Christian since the 1st episode.
I see what your saying now. You definitely know your stuff .

You are almost entirely on track but a couple of issues with your analysis...
She doesn't specify who she is talking about.. Could be talking about Essau or Jacob
If this is true then then how is Essau and the smoke monster one in the same? Im not saying you are wrong but the pretty accepted theory is that smokey is Essau and we see the smoke monster mimic dead people long before season 4.
The obvious thinking is what you have stated and I tend to agree with it, but there are a couple of problems with it.
You really should watch the SeanieB recap that I posted. He points out a couple of very interesting things.

Well, that was kind of my point. If this prison theory is correct (and I'm not sure it is), then it throws a big wrench into Nemesis/dead people/smoke monster connection.
FWIW, I'm not entirely convinced that the Nemesis is the smoke monster. While I do think that Nemesis was using the form of Alex at the end of Season Five to convince Ben to kill Jacob, I don't think its necessary to believe that the smoke monster and the form of Alex were one in the same.

I still think Jacob can - he chooses not to
-or-
Nemesis can take different forms, but cant leave the island, Jacob can't shapeshift, but is allowed to come and go. Each with a separate capacity to manipulate others

where the Nemesis was imprisoned in the Cabin
nah
AntiLocke=Nemesis=Smokie
we've seen smokie since the beginning, therefore, it's Jacob that's been imprisoned

I'm so jazzed for this that I printed out some DHARMA logos and put them on my condiments (making burgers for some friends that are coming over to watch LOST tonight).

Takes an awful lot of assumptions to come to that conclusion. So when was Jacob imprisoned? We know he wasn't imprisoned shortly before the 815 crash because he visits Jack as a resident. We know that he wasn't imprisoned after the O6 rescue because he visits Sayid and Hurley off the island.

fwiw, the piece of cloth that is hanging in the cabin that Allana finds is the section cut off of the bottom left of the piece hanging in his room under the statue.

ooohhhhhh
He's limited to the mainland or the cabin perhaps?

true. makes it pretty clear (if you can say that about lost) that they were looking for jacob in the cabin.

good catch
I'm serious, I couldnt care one tenth as much about how this ends as much as I care about how it began

Ok, but the machete that was used to stick the cloth to wall was identical to the one being carried by Nemesis/Locke. The cloth also was a picture of the statute.

I would agree that it is clear that they are looking for Jacob, which, to me, points out that if anyone was imprisoned in the cabin it was Nemesis. Here's why:
1. Illana and crew were surprised to see the ring of ash around the cabin which suggests that it wasn't always there.
2. Illana states that "he isn't here and hasn't been for a long time" which suggests that Jacob hasn't been for a long time.
3. Illana states that "someone else has been using the cabin"
4. When Locke visited the Cabin in Season Four, he hears "Help me." It's quite obvious at this point that Locke has been a tool of the Nemesis.

Did we ever see how the ring was broken?

Negative.

So Nemesis has Claire. Did he trick Claire into telling Kate (in a dream) not to bring Aaron back to the island? Does Aaron belong on the island?

Do you think in someway that Richard could be involved with Nemesis?
