I would agree that it is clear that they are looking for Jacob, which, to me, points out that if anyone was imprisoned in the cabin it was Nemesis. Here's why:
1. Illana and crew were surprised to see the ring of ash around the cabin which suggests that it wasn't always there.
2. Illana states that "he isn't here and hasn't been for a long time" which suggests that Jacob hasn't been for a long time.
3. Illana states that "someone else has been using the cabin"
4. When Locke visited the Cabin in Season Four, he hears "Help me." It's quite obvious at this point that Locke has been a tool of the Nemesis.
They may not have been there looking for Jacob, but they may have been there looking to confirm their worst suspicions that the MIB had indeed escaped and "Locke" wasn't something else.
And they weren't surprised by the ring itself, but that the ring was broken.

Do you think in someway that Richard could be involved with Nemesis?
I think they've met, but I don't think they are allies or else Locke would have let him in on what he was doing.

I haven't read that link yet but I fully believe that everything we have seen our Losties do has not been the first time they have done it. What we have seen so far has not been the first iteration...it could be the millionth time they have tried this.
And they would have done everything the same? I think that knowing what Jack knows, he would have done alot of things different on the Island.

Have you seen the whole episode or just the first half?
The clip that ABC put up on their website answers this, at least in my mind.

If he grew out a beard and his hair, these 2 look fairly similar.
I wouldn't take great pains in comparing those two pictures. The first guy is a lighting tech that was used as a stand-in.

I've seen the first half, and am trying to prevent showing it in any of my theorizing. One of my theories I'm posting right now I know is wrong, but I believed it up until I saw the premiere, so I'll just keep it up for now. I've been pondering for a few days and will let yall in on some of the theories I've come up with after it airs.

I know but those 2 are far more comparable than the actual Jacob is.

This assumes that he'd be aware that he had already been on the island and lived out these events.
I think it's plausible that he is in a timeloop but doesn't recall any of the past cycles on a conscious level.

Think back to Season 1:
Hurley's deja vu
Kate telling Charlie that she wonders if they have met before
This hasn't been their first rodeo.

Charlie is in a rock band, so yeah thats probably where she knows him. You're looking too deep into this. The simplest answer is usually the correct one in LOST.
And what is Hurley's deja vu you are speaking of?

Kate would not be paying attention to Charlie and his rock band. Considering that she was on the run from the booty hunter.

I believe he was standing on the beach looking at the ocean and he tells someone, "dude, I think I'm having deja vu" or something like that.

i still have a weird feeling that they've been on the island before and some of them remember bits and pieces of being there.

Ok, so thinking back.... Why did Ben start going to the Cabin?
Who sent him there? Was it Richard? Did he stumble upon it?
He said he had never seen or talked to Jacob, so how did he know about the cabin and all that jazz?
I'll admit that I am pulling this straight out of my arse, but I'm thinking Richard forbade Ben from going to a certain place on the Island, and Ben figured thats where Jacob was.
