It was Claire's decision to not have Aaron just then, not Ethan's.
The cool thing about the scene with Ethan and Claire was that it gave you insight into what happened on the island in season 1. Ethan was trying to delay her birth back then because he thought it would save her life. That was why he was so angry with the Losties in season 1. It seems, and was probably confirmed in last night's episode, that he REALLY was the good guy.

Can anyone give me a an update on how we got to this point? Kind of a cliff notes?
THIS point, as in season 6, or this point as in the end of season 2? Trust me watch the other 3 seasons before watching this one.

The writers have said the cap between the A and the X matters. I think its unlikely, but that was the best idea I could have come up with for the gap.
I think the "X" just symbolizes the alternate timeline. "LA-X." Kind of like Superman X

See I don't understand this part. Didn't the asian guy break open the wooden cross from the guitar case, and inside the note read that if Sayid died they'd all be in trouble? So now he's trying to kill him even though Jacob said they'd all be in trouble?
Ok, I am sure you guys have already figured this out, but i haved decided that Sayid has died already.... which means they are all in trouble now... they must now kill him a second time in order to prevent the darkness from taking him over completely.... since he died and was not healed by the waters, they are now all in trouble.

I am still on the train of thought that the yin-yang / backgammon play a big role. Jacob is good with a little bad in him while smokie is bad with a little good in him.
This is why they have never shown an overhead shot of the island. It would be "shaped" liked half of a yin-yang.

I know, I'm just saying for a long periods of time.

Theory, if you "die" on the island and are not buried, you return infected by the darkness. That is why it was so important for the others to be buried after they died and why so much attention was paid to burials in season 1.
Also note that the Dharma bodies appeared to be buried at one time, then uncovered when Locke fell into them earlier in the show.
Note: Locke was not buried but he did not die on the island. Also, Charlotte and Daniel died and were not buried, but died in different times.

IE the Island has never been shown in an overhead view on the actual show.

Since Ben was healed in the Temple and lost his innocence there as a child, does that mean Ben has been "infected" for all these years or do yall think that he passed the test?
Maybe Sayid becomes the MIB's version of Benjamin Linus and carries out all his wishes.

IMO I think Ben passed the test, otherwise they would have just outright killed him. However, Richard warned Kate and Sawyer that Ben would emerge "a fundamentally different person". Obviously Ben's base moral values were no longer in place post healing in the temple.
Flash forward to Sayid who needs healing in the spring. Dogen warns that there will be risks from the healing process, which we now know is the risk of infection from "the Darkness". But Sayid doesn't pass the test, and now instead of just being a fundamentally different person (whether for the good or bad in Sayid's case) Sayid has a darkness inside him much like Claire and Rousseau's crew. This is just what I'm thinking.

i dont think ben ever was infected... i think he lost his innocence because in order to be saved you have to give up that part... it doesnt necessarily make you a bad person it just means your childhood innocence is gone... you now view the world in a different light...
ben wants to protect the island and since he has this "protect at all costs" mentality he makes alot of decisions that are viewed as evil and dark, when in his reality he is just doing his duty.
so i think him going to the temple to lose his innocence and him coming across as a bad guy are not directly related.

So all this begs the question, "Why did Jacob insist that Sayid be taken to the temple?"
1) He expected the water to be clean, and Sayid to be healed.
2)He knew he had the darkness and wanted the Others to kill him
3) It wasn't Jacob at all (maybe MIB) and Hurley was tricked
4) Sayid's condition isn't irreversible.

i dont think Sayid had been infected with the darkness yet... he was hanging on to life...
i think jacob thought the only hope was for him to get to the temple to be saved, but the water was not clear so sayid was a lost cause after that... and in trying to save him they actually killed him which leads his body to be taken by the infection/darkness/herpes/the ghey

I took it to mean alternate. As in alternate reality. But who knows. You could be right.
