Hurley just found out in this Season's premiere.
Claire at least knew the name "Jacob" because in that cabin scene, Locke asked Christian if he was Jacob to which Christian responded, "No, but I can speak for him."
This is assuming that this was actually Claire in the cabin.

Hurley has been to his cabin with Ben and Locke (in Man Behind the Curtain?). I can't remember but I thought that they mentioned Jacob's name then.

I think it was Claire but she didn't seem like she was right in the head IYKWIM. The sickness may have already started to set in at that point. Who knows?

How would she know?
I don't think they ever addressed whether The Others, outside a select inner circle, know about Jacob.

I guess this would belong in an episode 4 thread but it look's like MIB/Locke is going to get Sawyer to do what he want's by dangling a "I'll bring Juliet back" carrot in front of him.
I like where they're taking Sawyer. He's going dark and his loss of Juliet/teaming up with Locke will take him to the edge. At the end he redeems himself and make's the heroic sacrifice.
I always saw him as Han Solo with an edge but it really seems like he'll end it like Vader.

Weak episode last night.
It's not that it was total shite, it just should be in the final season IMO. Nothing is getting answered. I just hope they are doing all of this for a reason...I have faith that they are though.

See, I though the answered a pretty big question last night regarding the role the six people touched by Jacob prior to 815.

before the season started, all we heard is this season was going to be COMPLETELY unlike the other seasons and that the writers were going in a completely new direction.
so far...meh. lsat nights episode already looks like 'middle of the season' fare ala BG filler.
i was really hoping for something really dramatic this year to knock my socks off. maybe it still will but right now it just feels like a continuation of the poor survivors wander around the island and everyone evades answering questions.

Does anyone at this point not think that Dorgan was an original passenger on the Black Rock?
I really think he may have been. Here's how I'm thinking the heirarchy of the Others is positioned:
Jacob
v
Ben/Widmore/Locke (Leader)
v
Split between Richard and Doogan. Both take on advising roles and know Jacob personally.
v
Tom/Lennon (the guy who translates for Doogan). Their purpose is being spokesmen for the Others.
v
Everyone else

Why was Widmore banished from the island again?

See, I think that Dorgan and Richard may be at least equal to, or greater than, Ben/Others Leader. They have this type of advisory role, but have more contact with Jacob and have a better understanding of the island.

Ben didn't even know about MIB until after he killed Jacob.
I'm thinking only Richard, Doogan, and Lennon know about MIB at all, but I'm not sure if they know that he and the Monster are one in the same (although Richard certainly knows now).

Interesting question.
Ben said it was because he broke the rules - lived off the island and had a family off the island. However, we now know that Ben never directly talked to Jacob. So there is a possibility that Richard just told Ben that Jacob wanted him banished.
I'm still holding on to a light belief that Richard isn't necessarily aligned with Jacob.

Hurley has known about Jacob for a while. They did mention Jacob's name around Hurley quite a few times.

What does MIB stand for?
FTR, I'm lost with what's going on. I missed a lot of last year.

MIB = the Man in Black. He is the opposite of Jacob.

Well, all of the other Others at the Temple must know something because they all worked to fortify the temple once they found out that Jacob was dead. Well, unless they just blindly accept orders from Dogan. I think its just a question of the extent of everyone else's knowledge about MIB/Smokie.

Well if the previews are telling the truth then it said that next week that the time for asking questions is over and we will start to get some answers.

They know about the Smoke Monster, and they know that it can't cross the ash, but other than that I don't think the Others know that much about the Monster.

See, this is really what I am basing my opinions on. This was "THE" season, and we'd all get questions answered and all that kinda shite. And so far, we've gotten nothing (or not much). I agree that it just feels like filler episodes so far. Not that that is a completely bad thing overall, but they're just not knocking our socks off like they said they would. I just hope it's all building to something awesome.
