Passion of the Christ should be on the list. Even if you are not a believer it is very powerful.

Lots of good ones mentioned, and some that I feel like I need to see.

I'll go with Jaws. Maybe powerful in a different way than other films mentioned here, but that movie had me back-of-my-mind scared of even the deep ends of swimming pools at night for my entire childhood, let alone the ocean. There won't be a single time in my life that I get in the ocean and don't have that movie in the back of my mind.

You aren't the only one. I saw that movie at way too early of an age.

Very good one. My older brothers took me to see Jaws when I was 8. They were supposed to go see Harper Valley PTA. Scarred for life in the ocean. We were at Grand Isle a few months later and a fin surfaced two feet in front of me in waist deep water. I ran out of the gulf, through the beach, and across the highway back to the camp without missing a beat. It was a dolphin. It still stays with me a little bit.

I felt all screwed up after watching it. Being a parent, it really bothered me bad.

Life is Beautiful - One of the best holocaust films I've ever seen. Sure, it isn't heart-wrenching in the visual way Schindler's List is, but there is something magical about the way Benigni's character tries to hide the horrors of the camp from his young son.

For me personally: Good Will Hunting - this is the movie that made me want to do film for a living. It is the first film i can remember that really touched me when I saw it in theaters at 16.

The Grey Zone had more impact on me. Tim Blake Nelson directed it and it is probably David Arquette's best work. I still haven't been able to watch that one again.
