Alan Rickman pulls off some fairly different characters.

Gary Oldman is the chameleon though.

I haven't seen Inception yet. I've seen most of his work since 3rd Rock. Try Killshot and Sundance film 500 Days of Summer, etc. He has played several different types of characters and pulled them off well. Perhaps you haven't seen enough to cast your opinion like I did.

Fanboy?

Flame on

Seen all of these plus the lookout. He's a good young actor but doesn't have the catalog yet to be compared to these other actors.

I'd like to through Meryl Streep's name in the hat also.

Bruce Willis:Badass SEAL, tough cop, borderline loon time traveler, etc.

Brad Pitt: Loon, ladies man, dopehead, badass psycho, etc.

Ed Norton: Puss/psycho killer, Baddass Nazi, tough cop, etc.

I would definitely add Depp, Downey, and Oldman.

Day-Lewis is tempting, but the numbers aren't there.

I disagree with a bunch: Depp, Norton, Rockwell. Even Willis to a point. He tries hard but I just don't think he is THAT versatile.

Oldman and Day-Lewis for sure.

And I would Don Cheadle.

That's why I opened the thread.

Charlie Wilson's War
The Terminal
Catch Me If You Can
The Road to Perdition
Castaway
The Green Mile
Saving Private Ryan
You've Got Mail
Apollo 13
Philadelphia
Forrest Gump

I also don't get the Johnny Depp love, he seemingly plays the wackiest roles. He can't (or maybe he just doesn't want to) play a regular guy. That's what I love about Hanks is the believability of all of his characters.

Also laughable if we are talking about versatility.

I think that maybe versatility needs to be explained for this list to work properly

I'll go with Gary Cole. He was Lumbergh in Office Space, Ricky Bobby's dad in Talledaga Nights, Mike Brady in the Brady Bunch movies, and a bunch of other stuff.
