I liked it but it's being way overhyped. It's a solid, fun film but not great by any means.

Nick fury could ship the hulk to another planet?
Posted on 5/6/12 at 11:05 pm to Tom288
Hulk has been the most powerful beast in marvel since i began reading comics in 81...
Dude held up a mountain from crushing the marvel heroes in secret wars...
Hulk was used to defeat the prof/mag amalgam villain

Didn't read the full thread, but people think this is a great film?
It was a fun time but it's no where near a great film. Not even top 3 best super hero film.
Fun movie, but dragged on in act 2. Also filled with cheesy one liners.
I liked it, but didn't love it.

Good entertainment. The bonus scene at the end with Thanos was a great touch.

you basically have my opinion, but if you try to defend it against those who think it's amazing, you better be strapped

no shite? it's that serious?
but seriously, during the part of the movie where they were developing the story on that air ship thing, the dialogue was almost unbearable. I found myself cringing repeatedly.

The problem is, you can NOT like the film. That's fine. You don't have to prepare your anus, have a personal opinion, that's cool.
The problem is the people who DON'T like the film being:
1) Overly harsh and nitpicky
2) Unfair, they don't hold other films to the same level
3) Acting like it isn't "great," It's not great for you, doesn't mean it's not great.
I hate dislike the Godfather in general, but NEVER will you find me saying it's not a great film. It surely is. It does what it intends to do and does it well. It's not my cup of tea. On the other hand, City Lights is the greatest film ever made to me. Not to many others, but to me it is. It's my cup of tea.
Avengers does EXACTLY what it sets out to do. And it does it perfectly.

There are many more reasons to NOT think a film is great than what you've listed and I'm sure you realize that which is why I'm perplexed at why you only listed those three.

So the godfather to you is what the avengers is to me? That is hilarious.

I have no doubt it did what it set out to do, seeing some of the fan reviews. But perfectly? Not even close.

Name them. and then prepare your anus
I'll take a wild guess:
TDK
Spider-Man 2
Iron-Man

So you agree that these are definitely better than The Avengers.

First Class
TDK
The Watchmen (if this counts)
certainly above
Iron Man
Spidey 2
i didn't love them as much as people, but i need to re-watch them to judge all 3 against each other
i'll throw out some others people forget
batman: mask of the phantasm
the crow
kick arse

Has anyone mentioned that this movie had absolutely no atmosphere? Nor did it cause any tension in the viewer?
Better Atmosphere:
Watchmen
TDK
Superman

Of course there is, again, see the Official thread.

What's funny about not enjoying a particular film? To each his own. There's a difference between enjoying a film and understanding a film's greatness. Clearly you can't do the latter without the former. And that's ok.
The Avengers ISN'T trying to be the Godfather. Or Inception. Or TGTBTU. Or any other film. It isn't trying to win an Oscar, or create some ultimately complex character like Atticus Finch on screen. I think the people not liking that are thinking that. It's not an empty vacuous piece of cinema like Avatar.
It's about bringing comic books to the screen. And yes it does that better than X-Men First Class and the Dark Knight. It may not be a better "film" but it is a better comic book movie.

What doesn't the Avengers get right about The Avengers? Do tell.
