That's why I said that one bullet to Negan's head when he comes to collect his first load would pretty much take care of this problem. His followers follow out if fear, not loyalty. Even if they would want to fight Rick's crew they would be disheveled and disorganized. They might even just walk off because they aren't there for a cause, they're there because Negan is ruling by brutal force.
That's a helluva gamble to take with the lives of your people safely tucked behind some pretty big walls.

IGN gave the episode a 6/10. Hardly a thumb's down
Kinda hard to rate. Could this be what crossing a warlord is like? Hell yeah. ISIS has done worse. Africans have done worse.

you want to leave an episode feeling shaken and riveted, not numb and in need of a shower.
Kinda hard to argue with that, but this episode was like the exhilarating Terminus one without Carol to save the day. It was legit. My "shower" was watching "Shameless," and I thought of it as such. Glad this isn't a particularly dark season so far.

I'm worried Negan is going to turn Darryl into his new right hand. The guy has way with the mind frick. Remember at the farm when Darryl fell into the ravine and the imaginary Meryl f'ed with him so bad? Darryl has a lot of internal demons that Negan can easily exploit.
A Negan minion Darryl would f with Rick, the whole group and us viewers much more deeply than simply killing Darryl.
And who wouldn't want Darryl on their team.

no
his followers follow b cause he keeps them safe and fed.
he has shown them a way to stay alive and to prosper and they will do what they can to maintain that, negan or no negan. the system works

Don't know about the rest of you but they should have shown them getting Lucille'd last year. The several month wait caused the show to lose that emotional investment. I was totally disconnected from these characters after having to wait so long and knowing somebody was going to get it. It was more relief that we finally got the answer than trauma over losing a character.
So Abe and Glenn got it, so what? Hadn't seen them in months anyways. I'm betting this scene will have more impact with the binge watching people.
100% agree. I felt nothing. Glenn was one of my favorite characters. The dumpster scene was a crusher for me (until I figured out he wasn't dead, grrr). Last night, having not even heard any of them speak in months, it was like losing a distant relative. BFD. Wouldn't have mattered who died, especially the adult males. Rick almost cutting off his son's arm was much more poignant.

This is how stupid the show has become: after six seasons of endless death, after years of repeatedly reminding us that anyone* (*who isn’t Rick or Carl) can die, after going through the same “We have hope now! Oh wait” cycle over and over and over again without any real variation or insight, it still expects us to care when it trots out the same trick again. God, the effort of it—not one death, but two! And this guy has an evil baseball bat! And no, seriously, he’s really scary, I think Rick and the others might actually be in over their heads this time. The show is so stupid that it thinks we’re stupid, prays we’re stupid; cross its fingers and hopes like hell that its legion of loyal, obsessive followers will rend their garments at the horrible demise of a fan favorite, but still be back next week for another round of spin the murder bottle.
I tend to agree with the AV Club on this one

power is power no matter the ideology
if you think for a second all of human history isn't about the pursuit of and attempt to keep power then you need to educate yourself
the peopls with power eat
the people without it suffer

I thought the whole dialogue between Simon and Negan regarding Darryl's name was an allusion about Darryl not being in the comic.
Negan not knowing his name, saying he likes DD and that "Darryl" sounded right. Just seemed like the show paying homage to the comic and that this would be the plot point to reconcile the comic and the show in regards to DD.
Pretty cool, even in this episode with other greatness.

Ummm, that's kinda the story in the comics. What do you expect in a world crawling with zombies?

Would have been awesome had he said "Darryl?...never heard of him!"

I'm not sure why people are so hard on this show.

they want it to be smarter than it is
it's a valid complaint
better writing would be nice

Jesus frick the AV Club has gone to complete shite. The entire introduction of Negan was to enter the survivors into a brand new world. Rick is no longer the top dog, he is broken and is now serving a man who is far worse then anyone they've come against. Glenn's death was ripped straight from the comics and will psychology torture Daryl for a very long time. Not to mention Maggie's character can continue to evolve to a bad arse Hilltop leader. IGN was guilty of this too, it seems reviewers are still pissed about the cliffhanger and people need to get over it. This episode rebuilt the tension perfectly and the deaths were every bit as fricked up as they were shocking. The acting of Andrew Lincoln, Jeffery Dean Morgan, and even Laruen Cohen were fantastic. This episode was all about breaking Rick and it did that phenomenally

Anybody that posts spoilers in a non spoiler thread should be banned, period. At least tol the season ends.
There's always 1 or 2 I know that take some sick pleasure from ruining it for everyone else.
Or they want to seem informed. They can "suck my balls"

This is why we can't have nice things and need the comics/no comics threads separated.
ETA: Same with some dude earlier in the thread who kept magically "predicting" stuff. I think rondo called him out a page or two ago.

Agreed , should be an immediate banning

Yep. There are people that actually go out of their way to not know anything about the comics. My wife is one of them and I would never mess that up for her. It's pretty fun watching with her and listening to her theories of what's to come.
