Just curious, for those of you calling certain shows overrated, have you actually given them a fair chance?

It boils down to 3 things on why some people see the later seasons as inferior:
1) They didn't like the answers given to them
2) They obsess over the answers not given to them
3) They hated time travel
That's not really "boiling" anything down, that's basically saying:
1) They didn't like how the show turned out
2) They had higher hopes for the show
The fact that the show depended on the answers given rather than the story told is already a problem.
I like the show, I just think that the shite thrown out there about it makes it clearly overrated. It is nowhere near as good as the fans think it is. Original? Sure. Exciting? Of Course. Generally more interesting than most television? You bet.
Good production values? Easily.
But was it well written? Frick No. Did it have an overall meaning and/or theme? Nope. Was the story arc consistent and logical? Nope. Were the characters believable? Hell No. Were core parts of the show explored? Nada. And so forth.
Those misfires keep it far from great, and in the "Above Average" category.

the next time I laugh during an episode of two and a half men will be the first. It kills me that crap like this and Greys anatomy can suck this bad and basically be given lifetime contracts.

I have yet see that LOST has delivered shitty dialogue. LOST mastered the art of show don't tell, which is one of the main signs of of good story telling. Pacing however the writers did have a problem with.

Science vs Faith? Fate over Free Will? Redemption? Life and Death? Granted it didn't have ONE main theme, but it had multiple themes

Are you still going on about trusting the Others and not asking them questions constantly?

How weren't the core parts explored. Granted everything wasn't answered, but I don't see how aside from Walt being Special they failed to answer core aspects of the series.

The fact that they often talked AROUND things in the show is not neccessarily "bad" writing in terms of grammar and or style. It's "bad" writing in terms of narrative. Lost never approached things head on, which was a major problem.

Like showing us the black smoke, but never actually telling us what it was? Yup, that was useful. Seeing as MIB had a body, this made no sense anymore.
You're using the "show don't tell" aspect wrong. It usually means this difference between:
"Dan cried."
and
"Dan's shoulders hunched as his head dropped, and a single, salty tear fell onto his lip. His hands shook as he wiped it away, but the motion was futile as his eyes poured."
On TV shows/Movies this would be the difference between constant exposition and actually having things happen. And you really think Lost avoided exposition? All the show did was tell you what happened, because it never could show it. And if it did show it, it made no sense.

None of these carried from beginning to end, and many were either A) Abandoned halfway through or B) Started somewhere halfway through, with no relevance to the prior events of the story.
It's ok to have multiple themes, but Lost had multiple themes because it never could decide what it wanted to be, not because it was "great" and "meaningful."

Uh yes. The Others, Ben, Jack, Kate, etc.
I will admit that: Sawyer, Juliet, Desmond were probably the best overall characters on the show. Clear arcs, believable actions, etc.
Some characters, Jacob, Jack, MIB, Widmore, were downright terrible.

See all of the above. A lack of a great hero, overarching themes, a clear narrative, etc. It all ties together to forming a cohesive experience, of which, Lost does not have. It's too uneven.

Somebody rate the shows and I'll tell you which ones I think are overrated.
As for shows that lots of people enjoy that I didn't/don't think were great:
MASH - a few funny moments, but to be considerfed one of the greatest shows ever, not so much. Age may have had something to do with it, as I may have been too young to "get it".
Dexter - I tried watching the first season recently and just couldn't get into it. I like the premise, but after several episodes, I just wasn't drawn in.
