What a great Michael Mann movie! That ending with "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" playing is pretty incredible. Great cast with William Peterson, Brian Cox, Dennis Farina, Joan Allen (Pamela Landy). I really liked Cox' version of Lecktor, less dramatic than Hopkins' version, but still quite menacing.

William Peterson should have been a gigantic movie star if he stayed on the same path as Manhunter and To Live and Die in LA.
He had a darkness to him that was great.

I totally agree with both posts and own those movies on DVD.

The beast Version of Lector, Hopkin's version was a caricature.

CSI is kind of a weird black hole of a show. None of the people that got “famous” on that show ever did anything.

Michael Mann and this movie in particular is why I got into wanting to make films.
The shots, style, location/set pieces are so incredible

Same. Music, cinematography, and style were yuge influences.

Tom Noonan is better type caste for Francis Dolarhyde than the mis-cast Ralphe Fiennes. Noonan should have been cast in the Red Dragon. Much more intimidating.

Absolutely beautifully made movie. It needs a 4K release. Michael Mann was on top of his game. William Peterson gives a haunting performance. Dude could have been the next big thing. Thankfully for him he hit the cash cow with the CSI franchise.
