Good point. I mean it's a good thread idea, but it's gone WAY out of hand.
Iconic CHARACTER =/= Actor born to play the role
Now you can argue can you have one without the other, but I don't know.
Take John Wayne for instance: You mean he was born to play the same role, with 4 different names in 4 different movies?? This makes no sense. It's more likely that they edited roles to fit his very narrow acting chops. (And I love westerns too, but let's not kid ourselves about John Wayne).
This list of 50 or so characters should really be 10. Maybe.
Arnold born to Terminator is ridiculous.
Arnold born to play Conan makes sense.

I don't know. James Arness seems to fit.

Michael J Fox was born to play Marty and thats a fact.
They threw away half a film and started over because it was so meant for him.

I don't think Eric Stotlz would have been that awful.

Born to play the role I feel means that you couldn't see anyone else in the role, but the role couldn't be fully catered to them. This disqualifies basically any role Joe Pesci and John Wayne have ever been in. I feel that Walter, Alex, and Landa all meet these requirements.

Either that or they physically embody the role and NO ONE else.
I'd say Toby Jones did a better Capote than PSH did, but that's me. They both resemble him almost perfectly though.

Disagree. I think his physique and acting chops were perfect at the time for that role.

Almost any ridiculous body builder could have been T-800.

I thought my Ronald Reagan post was a nice twist.

I think Snipes did a great job on Blade. I don't know anything about the comics, but I have a hard time picturing anyone else in the role.

and...
...were both cast perfectly for My Cousin Vinny, IMHO.
