Then why didn't the Butler come close to 100% you dumbass hick?
Why did the self-admitted white conservatives on this board who actually saw it say it was good?
Stay in your trailer and watch reruns of Birth of a Nation if you're so offended by Hollywood acknowledging that the Civil Rights Era existed.

Have you seen it? It is actually REALLY good. I would give it a 100% on RT too and I am not Oprah.
Who is shoving anything "down your throat"? Do you think this about every other subject that anyone makes a movie out of? Do you realize that this is the first movie where MLK was portrayed on film as a major character?
This was a HUGE period of American history that radically affected us all. Perhaps if we knew more about it then we would understand why things are the way they are now. Or, we would live up to the example of those people.
You let Oprah affect you too much. Sounds like you have some deepe issues.
It was a really good movie. You should see it.

That's one time too many for people like him.

Great comparison. The Butler was horrible. A really bad movie that tried to sentiminalize the Civil Rights Movement. Plus, it was just a poorly made movie.
12 Years a Slave was REALLY good.
Selma was REALLY good.
The Butler was terrible.

I will probably see it at some point. I'm not scared of seeing the harshness of that portion of history.
But in the current political climate, I'd just be sitting around thinking about Oprah wanting to dredge up history she wasn't a part of while simultaneously turning a blind eye to issues and damage caused by modern black America. FWIW, I recognize I'm almost incapable of compartmentalizing those things, which probably isn't fair to those who did suffer during the time.

It made me think that I wish we had leaders like King now. They were asking for basic human rights. The movie actually shows what is worth fighting for, how you do it, and what is important.
It should have an opposite effect than what you are talking about.

Nobody should feel white guilt unless they are guilty of something. We can all stand to feel human guilt and be reminded of things we never want to repeat.

She is arrogant, aggravating, and racist. To me, there's nothing to like about her. She's a fraud.

Being honest, some of the posts in this thread make me sad. Oprah is a little annoying, but wtf is wrong with some of you people? shite I was alive during that time and there was some heavy, but also heroic, stuff going on in this country.

Several of them calling Oprah racist then you ask for proof and they have none. Made me chuckle.

Shoving what down your throat? History? Relevant history as a matter of fact. Did you know it was the 50th anniversary of the Selma march? I bet not.

If MLK had not been in Selma, the focus of the nation would have been on Bogalusa, Louisiana.

Oprah racist? Huh? I have no idea what you're talking about or how you could have that opinion.

I am a White Southerner and I really liked it. It paints the White South in a pretty terrible light, but things were pretty terrible back then and the story needs to be told.
Should we ignore the fact that blacks stirred up a ton of trouble as well? Why is it always "evil whitey" and "poor innocent blacks"?
Frick all these white guilt movies.
