During the 1972 Munich Olympics, an American sports broadcasting crew finds itself thrust into covering the hostage crisis involving Israeli athletes.
I thought Munich did a fine job of covering the crisis and Israel’s response, but this seems to be going the Civil War route and giving us the story from the journalists’ perspective instead of badass Israeli assassins.
It’s consistently in the top 5 predictions for the 2025 Best Picture. It will have a limited theatrical release November 27 and a wide release in December.

September 5 was a Thursday this year. Seems like they could have released it then to a little more fanfare but I guess fall is oscar season.

One Day in September is perfect. Hope this one doesn't humanize the terrorist Pali scum.

This film is great. Exceeded all expectations.

I thought it was well done and the performances from Sarsgaard, Magaro, and the German actress Benesch were exceptional. The actor that played Peter Jennings did great too.
I had a hard time trying not to compare it to Munich though. I had to rent it a few days after watching September 5 and they complement each other quite well.

It’s now on paramount+ if anybody wants to give it a watch. I watched it this morning and thought it was fantastic. I’m only 34 so for me it was like seeing this coverage for the first time. What an epic frick up by Germany. Did they really originally report that the hostages survived?

Weekend TV programming was very weak back then (The ABC Pro Bowler's Tour was a Saturday mainstay, as an example). Jim McKay's Wide World of Sports was a steady part of our lives. To get the news of the hostage murders from your "uncle" who brought you Canadian Curling and the Harlem Globetrotters each weekend was very jarring.
