Something else to consider: Star Trek delivered 79 episodes over 3 years with a limited budget.
Given those time and budget constraints, it isn't really fair to compare to Star Wars, yet Star Trek still triumphs....

Star Trek is more adult oriented. More Cerebral.
Star Wars has all the cool shite.
You can like both, and I do.
But I'll take light sabres, the Millenium Falcon, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Slave Leiah, Tie Fighers, Imperial Star Cruisers, the Death Star, Rancor onsters, landspeeders and X-wings over that gangly USS Enterprise any day.
I liked the Kelvin timeline too. Especially the first one.

TV shows and movies that have the characters inside a spaceship the entire time
And even for the ones that are, the scope is much larger.

I will walk into the holodeck on my Enterprise and actually play as a character in Star Wars.. Then you can enjoy both worlds... I would say you would have no chance of Vader killing you, but our holodeck tries to kill someone or the ship every season.

I do personally enjoy the more WW2-style combat of Star Wars. I have always liked SF that incorporated 1 man fighters, and not just capital ships. It's probably not as likely, although conversely it's also probable that the big ships become obsolete too- too easy a target for increasingly potent weapons.
I also enjoy the swordplay that comes into effect with lightsabers.
