So the new season thread had me thinking I really hadn’t paid attention to southpark in 10+ years. Watched it all the time in high school and early college (of course) but then checked out on it around 2015ish. The same time PC principal came around. Not gonna lie I was shocked he’s now been a character for a decade.

So fired up season 19 and just started with that and have been watching a little bit and I’m shocked at how funny I find it. Maybe eventually it falls off a cliff but so far I’m actually enjoying it. It’s crazy to watch a lot of the PC stuff they go into way back in 2015 when this is just starting. They really can be hugely ahead of the times with their jokes. Maybe it was less funny in 2015 but seeing where things went with political correctness the last 10 years somehow makes the jokes hit harder.

Not sure if anyone has gone back and watched some of the “older” stuff from the last 10 years of the show but feels like it’s likely to have aged pretty well. Crazy that these episodes date back to before the first Trump administration.

ETA: for reference I’m watching an episode about ads right now and how they’re inescapable. Pretty funny considering streaming was once devoid of ads and now they’re becoming hard to avoid even there.

Matt and Trey are a national treasure, the group that whines about south park and how they went too far or are washed up changes with the wind. All these people have short memories when it comes to South Park.

Just amazes me that they continue to make stuff that stays relevant, and explains the TV ratings and the massive pay day.

They rarely miss on episodes, they are consistently funny. IASiP is close but not quite up to their level

Agreed. The same people that loved them for their Covid/Woke era episodes are the ones that hate the current Trump ones.

I don’t find the Trump one as funny but they are who they always have been.

That being said, I am befuddled at why they didn’t go after Biden or Harris one bit. June-November 2024 should have been a comedy gold mine for them.

After their last special they were getting held up by Paramount and HBO and then later their deal with Paramount which is why they had to delay the new season a couple weeks

ahh got it. I know you two aren't the most pro-Trump people on this board, but you have to admit that that time period should have been great.

Honestly I still think they could make a hilarious auto-pen episode.

They’ve done a good job making fun of the lefts insane culture bs but they haven’t really touched on specific people on the left. I doubt they will at this point. That being said, South Park is in the conversation for best series ever. I liked that they went hard in the first episode this season, I’m hoping the rest of the season is good. Since PC principal has been introduced they’ve had a lot of mediocre episodes with some good ones sprinkled in.

I remember when the wife would get mad at me for watching SP with our daughter :-)

It's probably been close to 10 years for me too.

From a strictly comedic standpoint those two are lame and unfunny. Trump being an absolute clown in real life makes him easier to portray. This is the most anyone has talked about South Park in years.

Everybody loses their fastball. At least they’re not like Rick and Morty which is hackneyed and they’re only in season 8

Happy Gilmore 2 was watched and talked about 40x more than Happy Gilmore 1. Doesn't make it a good thing.

S19 Ep 1 & 2 of PC Principal, the fraternity and their song, and Randy checking Kyle's privilege is probably my favorite 2 episode stretch ever.

Yeah, the guy who literally couldn't count to three and his incoherent word salad DEI VP are totally not unabashed clowns worth dunking on....

What? Were you responding to me? I’ve never even once gave the impression I was a fan of either.
