I'm in the same exact boat you are. I finished The Stand in March.
I'm struggling getting through The Gunslinger though. It drags compared to The Stand.
ETA: Have they officially locked this in yet? The man was born to play Flagg

The Shining scared the ELF out of me
Also
Night Shift is the best collection of short stories and Different Seasons the best for novellas.

The Gunslinger gets better towards the end of the book when The Man In Black drops some heavy shite.
Havent heard any recent news about MM playing Flagg but when I heard that shite last year I was fricking hyped.

I hope so because I am half way through and struggling to find reasons to go back to it. If I don't finish it, it will be the second time I've tried to start the series and cant make it to the end of the first book (which a lot of people say is the best one of the series).

I've started the dark tower on 2 separate trips and have stopped about halfway through both times. I love it but just get sidetracked these days. Now that I think of it, its the first book I've ever tried to read on my ipad. maybe that's my problem.

It's good but the third act really drags.

I'm about to finish The Drawing of the Three. Good shite. Good shite, indeed.

Short story that never gets love is Apt Pupil. Can't remember which collection it is in.
Green Mile is incredible, but the movie was done so well and only deviates slightly so it may be redundant.
Mentioned a million times but get over the 1,000 page limit. The Stand is the best, and "It" is the only book I have ever had to put down. 20 pages in and a dead child's eyes are filling with rain. Da Fuq.

I've read "It" 5 times. I love it.
The Shining and it's sequel, Dr Sleep, were both very good.
Rose Madder, Misery, The Stand, and Salem's Lot are all great, and The Dark Tower series is a must-read.
Skeleton Crew and Night Shift are both collections of short stories, they're both hit-or-miss with some REALLY good ones and some really dull ones. If you're looking for lighter reading, they're perfect.
Currently just started reading "Revival", his newest book, last night. I have The Tommyknockers on hold at the library.
Did I mention King is my favorite writer of fiction?

if you want to start out small, read his collections first. They contain some wonderful stories that have been made into movies over the years.
Different Seasons - More drama than horror in these 4 stories:
The Body - movie Stand By Me is based on it.
Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption - movie The Shawshank Redemption
Apt Pupil - movie Apt Pupil
The Breathing Method
Other short story collections include:
Skeleton Crew
Night Shift
Nightmares and Dreamscapes
Just After Sunset
The Green Mile (was put out in 6 novellas) - The Green Mile
Don't remember the page count, but the most scared I have ever been reading a novel was when I was a freshman in high school and was home alone for the weekend and read Pet Semetary all in one sitting at night during a massive thunderstorm.
Also, don't forget about the books released as Richard Bachman:
Rage - Good luck finding. King will not allow it to be published anymore after the shooting in Columbine.
The Running Man - is much better than the movie.
The Long Walk
Roadwork
The Regulators - best to read it and the mirror novel published under Stephen King, Desperation, back 2 back

I've always enjoyed his short story/novella collections. Everything's Eventual is my favorite. As well as Different Seasons.

I read The Stand on my iPhone 6+. If I wasn't so obsessed with reading the story I probably would've quit on it, because it was physically painful. I feel like all this difital reading is killing my vision.
I think I'm going back to paperback from here on out.

Pick up some of his books that are made up of short stories. Nightmares and Dreamscapes, Night Shift, etc. I'm a huge King fan and have read most of his books, but I love his short stories the most.
I would also like to add The Running Man and The Long Walk.
Another classic that I can't remember anyone mentioning in this thread is Cujo.

I loved the Dark Tower until...
***SPOILER***
He inserted himself into the story. I felt like that was the jump the shark moment in the series.

I'm out the thread. Haven't finished dark tower yet, currently loving the third book, and I'm not going to have it spoiled.
